Charlestown, Nevis, September 11, 2025 (NCCU Communications) -- In a poignant moment for members of credit unions in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Limited and a distinguished son of the soil, Mr Melvin Edwards (CSM), were on Monday June 23 this year inducted into the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) Digital Hall of Fame.
As is the tradition, a ceremony featuring military honours by the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will be held at the National Heroes Park at Conaree. The ceremony begins at 8 a.m. and will feature a short programme that concludes with the laying of wreaths at the base of the four statues featured – The late Right Excellencies Sir Robert Bradshaw, Sir C. A. Paul Southwell, Sir Joseph France, and Sir Simeon Daniel. Recognition and special presentation to the only living National Hero, the Right Excellent and the Right Honourable Dr. Sir Kennedy Simmonds will also take place.
A significant step in ongoing betterment of labour relations between workers and management was achieved on Monday 31st March 2025, when representatives from the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNT&LU), Harowe Servo Ltd., and the Ministry of Employment and Labour signed a new three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
"Fellow citizens and residents, it is with deep sadness that I address the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis following yet another traffic loss on our roads. On behalf of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family as well as to the families of those who have lost loved ones in road accidents this year. No words can truly ease the pain of such loss, but rest assured that our thoughts and most fervent prayers are with you during this difficult time,” COP Sutton expressed.
With a wide variety of produce, fresh fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, and locally made, customers (and the wider public) were given the opportunity to purchase, and sample many of the products on hand, while interacting with the appreciative vendors.
“Only persons who could have gotten citizenship through their grandparents were persons born before Independence [on September 19, 1983], and they got it at Independence,” he stated. “However, a child under 18 years can get citizenship through their parents if [a] parent is a citizen. Therefore, a grandparent born in Saint Kitts and Nevis before Independence, can pass citizenship to his or her child born outside [of the Federation] after Independence. And that child, who is now the parent of the grandchild, can then apply for the child born outside of St. Kitts and Nevis to be a citizen. However, that parent cannot apply for an adult (someone over 18 years) to be a citizen, and that is the point.”
The park, which is opposite the Newtown Play Field on the Leonard Dickenson Road, was opened on Sunday March 30, where persons from all walks of life gathered to witness the opening of the park named in honour of Mudada, as he was popularly known, who at the ceremony was referred to by speakers as a champion of the people.
The CARIFTA Games, renowned for showcasing the region’s best track and field talent, will provide these athletes with an opportunity to compete against the Caribbean’s elite while flying the nation’s flag high. This year’s team, dubbed “Team Unstoppable SKN,” embodies the dedication, discipline, and determination needed to excel on the regional stage.
