Charlestown, Nevis, September 11, 2025 (NCCU Communications) -- In a poignant moment for members of credit unions in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Limited and a distinguished son of the soil, Mr Melvin Edwards (CSM), were on Monday June 23 this year inducted into the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) Digital Hall of Fame.
As is the tradition, a ceremony featuring military honours by the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will be held at the National Heroes Park at Conaree. The ceremony begins at 8 a.m. and will feature a short programme that concludes with the laying of wreaths at the base of the four statues featured – The late Right Excellencies Sir Robert Bradshaw, Sir C. A. Paul Southwell, Sir Joseph France, and Sir Simeon Daniel. Recognition and special presentation to the only living National Hero, the Right Excellent and the Right Honourable Dr. Sir Kennedy Simmonds will also take place.
A 50-year-old escapee inmate of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) was recently on the run for over 24 hours hours before he eventually turned himself back into police custody.

Recent comments made by Carnival Chairperson Shannon Hawley about in-person events for Sugar Mas 50 has been backed up by the Chairperson of the Disaster Mitigation Council, Attorney General Vincent Byron Jr., who says Hawley has made a “very powerful and strong case” for such to happen.
Notably, the Union is set to host its second session during the COVID-19. The pandemic has brought on some challenges for workers, workplaces and the labour market in general around the world.
“We have to ensure that we are including all of our young men and women and also our children at the primary school and high school level. Teaching our young men and women the art form of agriculture or the role that agriculture should play would make them much more inclined to embrace the importance of agriculture in moving forward,” he noted.
“Thus far, you would recognize that we have moved to name a new candidate in East Basseterre. It signals that at a minimum that we do intend to contest another five seats here in St.Kitts, [and] if necessary then we contest all eight seats.”
