Scripture: John 15: Verse 13
Remembrance Day is a day of memorial and thanksgiving for those service men and women who died in military service, past and present, for their country.
Many people observe Remembrance Day as just another day but for those who have lost someone as a result of training, wars, conflicts, or military actions, it is a day to recognize and honor all those who showed their willingness to spill their blood to make our country what it is today. Remembrance Day also reminds us that the price of freedom is blood.
Our freedom and way of life have come at a great price. All of us enjoy freedom and democracy because men and women have died for our country. The cost of freedom is the shedding of blood, the ultimate sacrifice. “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15: 13)
The brave men and women who died in service to their country deserve credit and honor. Some who have returned from war, by the grace of God, are shown no appreciation for their service. They become homeless, jobless, penniless, mentally and physically sick, and given no care for their wounds and battle scars. Such mistreatment of veterans dishonors past and present fallen war heroes.
Because men and women have died for our country, we have the right to pursue peace, justice, equality, prosperity and happiness.
Likewise, we must remember the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, his victory over death and hell and his resurrection. He gave his life to set us free from sin and hell.( John 3: 16) By and through his blood we have redemption and forgiveness of sin.
May eternal rest grant unto the departed comrades oh, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
