BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Monday 4th December 2023)- Come Saturday 9th December 2023, domestic workers in St. KittsNevis are scheduled to partake in a second virtual training session, organized by the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) and Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) in partnership with the Caribbean Domestic Workers Network (CDWN).
SKNT&LU General Secretary Precious Mills stated: “This weekend is expected to see yet another training session which is anticipated to be quite informative and educational. The workers are definitely looking forward to participating especially since these type of sessions allow the domestic workers to interact with others across the region as well as to engage with the facilitators.” She added: “The first session was quite impactful.
Our Union remains on the move in ensuring that we are poised to receive the necessary support to empower domestic workers.” Mills highlighted that domestic workers are those are employed in the homes of others performing duties such as cooking, cleaning and caretaking of babies, elderly and the differently abled. “If you fit this category of work, which is decent work, just like any other job, the SKNT&LU is encouraging you to join our workers organisation in seeing to your betterment in the long run.
Therefore, we strongly encourage you to be part of the positive change that you want to see in your field of work. The Union makes us strong.” The upcoming training session is slated to start at 10:00am to 3pm, and includes complimentary lunch.

SKNT&LU members (domestic workers) who participated were Andy Liburd, Lauretta Joseph, Angela Simon and Shirley Walters while Union representatives in attendance were President Sydney Bridgewater, General Secretary Precious Mills and Field Officer Sean Kelly. As gathered, part of the vision for the upcoming session would focus on reminding workers of the dream destination where human dignity, our work and worker rights are respected, Reflecting on the task to share the dream destination with the rest of the members for their input and also Discussing the next steps in the regional journey.
St. Kitts and Nevis is part of the CDWN and is currently a target affiliate for the IDWF.
