BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Monday 4th December 2023)- Mr. Sydney ‘Stabby’ Bridgewater of St. Kitts (President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union-SKNT&LU) was among nineteen (19) recipients honoured during the recently held inaugural National Awards ceremony for International Men’s Day.
The event presented by the Departments of Gender Affairs St. Kitts and Nevis was held at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park on Saturday 25th November 2023. under the theme ‘Men.s Health Matters’. Mr. Bridgewater, who received his award in the category of First Response, when asked by this media how he feels about such recognition, commented: “I feel good about receiving such an award.
In St. Kitts-Nevis, we have too many unsung heroes, and so it is important to give honour when due and not leave them out. The awards ceremony was a good exercise, and it was done as a joint national event in making it bigger and profound more for the Federation.” He further expressed appreciation and applauded the organisers whilst congratulating the other awardees.

Born and bred in the McKnight area, Basseterre, St. Kitts, current address is Malone Avenue, Basseterre, St. Kitts. Sydney early education started at the Irish Town Primary, he further went on to his secondary education at the Senior High School, which is now called the (Basseterre High School), he was the frontrunner to the Washington Archibald High School.
Mr. Bridgewater was an average sports man, where he played cricket, basketball, and football for his schools, the McKnight Community and clubs. He has served on the minimum and tripartite committees, for the St. Kitts Nevis Trades & Labour Union.
In his early years of working, he has worked at the Industrial Estate for over 25 years, his employment status are as follows: Curtis Mathis Ltd (TV & Electronics), Best Form Ltd (Brazier Factory), and at Jenkins Construction Ltd, as Timekeeper and Supervisor. His present role sees him as the President and Workers Representative for the St.
Kitts Nevis Trades & Labour Union. In this field he has gained several certificates, Industrial Relation Certificate from the George Meany College U. S. A. and Certificate for Labour. Mr. Bridgewater has been a Volunteer for over twenty (20) years in Disaster Preparedness Management with the National Emergency Agency (NEMA) he holds the Deputy Manager position for NEMA District Two, (Central Basseterre).
His political background has always been a Labour Stalwart, his function in the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party, for Constituency Two (2) have seen him holding the various posts, Chairperson and Polling Captain for Polling Station 4, Member of Constituency Two (2) Branch.
He is a member of the Zion Moravian Church, and attend Church regularly, and take part in every aspect of the Church affairs, such as a Moravian Conference Choir, and the St. Kitts Nevis National Choir, he has traveled to Nigeria, Africa, participated in the Christmas Music Festival (International) Ibou Nigeria in 2013.
