BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 7th March 2024) – The newly re-elected President of the Media Association of St. Kitts and Nevis, Andre Huie, has pointed out that first and foremost on the to-do list in the new chapter is local and overseas training for its members of reporters and other media – NEWS –
professionals. He shared such sentiments following the two-year cycle elections held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in Basseterre on Wednesday 6th March 2024 with an electorate of eighteen (18) eligible voters collectively in-person and online.
“Certainly we can say that our members look forward to more training opportunities, both here as well as abroad as we partner with the MIC [Media Institute of the Caribbean] and the Association of Caribbean Media workers,” he stated. Notably, the other executive members of the association have been returned (with the overall ratio of three (3) females and four (4) males) namely: Vice President Glen Bart, Second Vice President Jermine Abel, General Secretary Natasha Morris, Assistant Secretary Sharon Richards, Communications Director Jamiella McPhail and Treasuer Devin ‘Buckie’
Richardson. In expressing gratitude, Huie said: “First of all, let me just thank God Almighty for the strength to have the ability to be in this position once again, and let me also thank all the members who voted tonight and who reposed their confidence in me once again for another term, and to the members of the executive who have been elected.” He went on to say: “I’m looking forward to this term.
I think the association, we’ve managed to accomplish a lot over the past two years. We started from a position of zero, where we had to build everything from scratch. We were able to accomplish a lot. There’s still a lot more we haven’t done, and we’re hoping to go.
So, we’re looking forward to this year. We’re looking forward to the support of our members. The members of the media corps. There are a number of issues affecting the media fraternity here in St. Kitts and Nevis; we’re going to be addressing those issues with alacrity.” According to Huie “we also intend to make some changes within, one, the constitution.
We want to review the constitution of the media association. And we also want to get more of our members actively involved with the work of the association even if they’re not on the executive. So those are some of the things that we’re looking to do, and first and foremost on our list is training.

Minister of Sport et al, Hon. Samal Duggins also gave the assurance of his government’s commitment to bolstering the campaign for equality and equity. “When we inspire inclusion, we open the door to diverse perspectives, ideas, and approaches.
This diversity becomes a source of strength, fueling innovation and creativity within our sporting community. As a government, we understand that fostering an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to participate, compete, and lead is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic investment in the future of our nation,” he stated.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a call to action, inspiring individuals and organizations alike to work towards a more inclusive and equitable society for women. As the celebrations unfolded, the resounding message was clear – it is time to break barriers, challenge norms, and inspire inclusion for a brighter and more equitable future.
Representatives from various sporting federations and associations who attended the event also received certificates of participation. The event was birthed by the members Women in Sports Commission of the SKNOC and Chairwoman Jennifer Nero, as part of the continued efforts to champion the cause for equity and equality.
