Patrice Nisbett: ‘No Team Unity For Me’

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts ( Tuesday 5th June 2018)-“Patrice Nisbett is not for sale and those who generate and spread fake news will be called upon to pay the consequences of their actions.  I will continue to serve in the interest of the people with the aim of peace, progress and prosperity for all.”

So said the only opposition parliamentarian of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and former Attorney General Patrice Nisbett in dismissing rumors that he has been in discussions to join the Team Unity Government- led by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris- as an Ambassador and Special Advisor.

“In the past several hours, a number of reports which I find necessary and compelling to address head on have come to my attention. So, as they concern me directly and would have great implications, chiefly for the people of Nevis 11, who have placed their considerable faith and trust in me as their representative in the national assembly of our great Federation, it is important to make my position very pellucid,” he said in a statement issued today ( 5th June).

He continued: “ I have never entered into discussions nor do I intent to entertain any discussions with emissaries or leaders of the Team Unity construct in respect of this matter, nor have I sought to negotiate with them or otherwise considered employment in any capacity with the present failing and embattled administration.  I can only speculate that the baseless rumours, which have been circulated in some media avenues and on social media, were designed to create mischief and instability in the minds and hearts of the people, and in particular of my constituents, simply for political advantage under the cunning guise of extending olive branches and forming alliances in the interest of national unity.   Let me make it clear once again, that I, Patrice Nisbett, as a man of integrity and honour, will continue to work for and serve only in the best interest of the people of this Federation and particularly of the people of Nevis and Nevis 11 who have charged me, as their parliamentary representative, with a great responsibility and whose mandate it is my obligation to fulfil. My allegiance remains with them.”

Nisbett pointed out that as he reflects on his years of service, he is humbled with the warm generosity of support and goodwill that his constituents have demonstrated towards me over the years.

“This been the bedrock of my commitment to public service.   Let me state unequivocally, that as the elected representative of the people of Nevis 11, it is my sole intention to serve and protect their interests, whether in government or in opposition. The rumours which have recently surfaced and sped into circulation that I have been offered, and supposedly accepted a position or employment with the Team Unity government are false and malicious and done during this time when the country is calling for transparency in government at the highest level where representatives have lost their way in their pursuit of their personal advancement,” he commented further.

Nisbett touched on his years of service given saying: “My unblemished record over the last eighteen years in politics is a testament to selfless service that I have given to my country and the people. My service as a former Attorney General and Minister in the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has never been clouded and or tainted with any scandal of bribery or any attempt to betray the loyalty and confidence reposed in me by my beloved constituents.   From my experience, whenever an election is imminent there are those who would seek to circulate rumours to discredit honourable men. It seems as if in a short time, I may once again have to call upon you my beloved constituents to renew our mandate at the Federal level.”

The project was supported through the U.S. Government’s Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, with total funding of just over US$400,000 provided across two phases.
