OPPOSING JUST FOR OPPOSING SAKE IS NOT HEALTHY FOR THE COUNTRY!

BY Earle Clarke, 12/02/2018:

“Once a Government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of Opposition, it has only one way to go and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” Harry Truman- 8/8/1950:
Dear reader, there is a character on Face Book by the name of Mar Williams, who fronts for a certain big Whig in the unity mirage. There was this post about a new hotel to be constructed at the Southeast Peninsular, where those bar owners are given their marching orders to vacate the beach where they have been making a worthwhile contribution to the Tourist Industry whilst earning an honest livelihood in the process. I expressed appreciation for this hotel chain coming to my country for it will create jobs for my people. This character seemed surprised that I Earle Clarke, a strong Labour Supporter would support such a venture coming to my country. I had to reply immediately stating that, whether or not my Party is in power, as long as investors are lured to the country regardless of who brought them, I will welcome such investments, because it redounds to the benefit of my country and its people. This is the difference between Labour Supporters and PAM/CCM/PLP/unity mirage supporters.

In the 1950’s when the Labour Government acquired Frigate Bay from the Wigley’s, who owned it, there was a huge outcry of opposition from the oligarchs of the country who accessed the Southern Beaches and who were incensed that ordinary folks would now be able to enjoy what was once a privilege for them only. Prinair, a small airline company from Puerto Rico wanted to build a Hotel at Fordland’s, where the Music Festival was held prior to journeying to Warner Park. The People’s Action Movement had just entered the political landscape, and its leader did everything possible to thwart the investment. Prior to this investment, there was a move afoot to build a hotel at the same spot by local Kittitians. Kittitians were encouraged to buy shares and the ordinary working class people were elated to own something so they bought shares from the pittances they were paid. The enthusiasm of the working class people was too much for the oligarchic Lawyer who was in charge of the project.

He bluntly refused to take the project off the ground. Rumour had it that he made the remark that he was not allowing the ordinary man and woman to become share holders in anything. You see, Barbados which also produced sugar, had branched off into Tourism. Barbados, I believe, is not half as Naturally Beautiful as St. Kitts. The few Tourists who visited on the Canadian Cargo boats always marveled at the Natural Beauty of the island and the friendliness of its people, so the Labour Leaders were encouraging the oligarchs to diversify the economy which they bluntly refused to do, perhaps because they feared the mass migration of the workers from the sugar industry to the Tourist Industry. Their reluctance could also have been caused by their contempt for the ordinary Black people improving their status in the Tourist Industry and come to enjoy the things that they enjoyed. It must never be forgotten that, although slavery was officially abolished, we were still working for the same people who enslaved us and who still possessed the slave Massa mentality.

In returning to the Prinair history, PAM did its damndest to stifle the construction of the Hotel at Fortlands. They even travelled to Puerto Rico to hold discussions with the investors. As a Taxi Driver, I could remember hearing the words of Mr. Bradshaw at the ground breaking ceremony, “I do not believe in ground breaking ceremonies. I prefer to participate in the opening of the project!” Dear reader, do not ever forget that PAM was supported by the sugar estate owners and the big business places; many of the business places were owned by the same sugar estate owners who owned the land and the businesses at the same time. You can see for yourself that PAM which was financed by the oligarchs was working in their service to keep us the working class in our place. As a result of the negative harassment of PAM, the construction of the hotel petered out, bringing to the fore what Mr. Bradshaw said at the ground breaking ceremony. He was aware of the workings and the thinking of these people who did not want his people to rise out of the bondage of slavery. We must always be subdued, degraded, crushed, and held down never to rise up like dignified human beings.

Having acquired Frigate Bay, The Minister of Tourism, Mr. Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell invited Indelco, a British Firm to develop the area. A vicious attack was launched by PAM and the oligarchs to prevent this investment from coming to St. Kitts. Mind you, this company had investments taking place in the Bahamas, but yet the vicious things that were said about it by PAM, as the older folks would say, “Hurt Head!” You see, the working class must never emerge from the cane fields. PAM and its financiers were able to torpedo the project which included a Marina. Undaunted by this treacherous onslaught by the enemies of the working class, the Labour Government decided to build a hotel on its own and invite hoteliers to operate it on lease. Dear reader, setting up a hotel to lease, it meant that more visitors would visit the country and Taxi Drivers would be the beneficiaries of such a move; but the same Taxi Drivers who were to benefit from the hotel, began telling the visitors, who they drove over there on tours, that nobody is going to operate it, because it is the Government who built it.

I was sitting in my Taxi one afternoon when a lady came to me asking for directions to a certain business place. I gave her the direction and then she said to me, “If the Government builds a hotel, wouldn’t all Taxi Drivers benefit from it?” I replied, “But of course?” She then related to me that a certain Taxi Driver who drives for a hotel around the Fort, where she is staying drove her over to Frigate Bay, showed her the hotel (which she says looks good) and then said that as long as she lives, nobody will ever come to occupy it. The lady was surprised at his remarks for she wanted to know if his earnings would not increase if more visitors visited the island? I was able to drive the lady for the remainder of the time she spent here. The hotel was leased to an Italian living in St. Martin. As soon as PAM came into Office in 1980, they ran the leaseholder out of the hotel and brought in their leaseholder from Canada. Dear reader, I only possess a Primary School Education and perhaps I am not that brilliant especially when it comes to analyzing and parsing things, so, please to help me work out this math.

Now, if I am the owner of a dwelling house and I lease it to someone for a certain period, I will have to insure the building. If, during the period that it is leased, the building is burnt to the ground, to whom should the INSURANCE MONIES be paid? Shouldn’t it be the owner of the house and not the leaseholder, for, where does the leaseholder comes into contact with the INSURANCE PAYMENT? The leaseholder’s name was never on the INSURANCE, so, how does he get the Insurance payment? When you hear some people throwing stones at Dr. Douglas eh? When you hear some people cursing you about the ulcer that they untruthfully claim you have, just check their pants or britches foot to see if it is bulging because it has dressing on it to cover their guo-ab (my spelling and granny’s terminology for a rotting ulcer or sore foot). They are the ones who have the ulcer, not you, because you can hoist up or pull up your pants foot, but they cannot do the same, for everybody will know for sure that they have a guoab.

After the building was burnt down, the Insurance which should have which should have been paid into the Treasury as it was a Government building, was paid to the leaseholder. All the so-called decent and respectable persons in our society kept their mouths shut; they suffered a stroke of the mouth which became paralyzed rendering it to stay shut at all times. Could you imagine dear reader, that PAM ran all these investments out of the country while they were in Opposition? They were now in power and, apart from Bird Rock Beach Hotel they could not attract a big named hotel to our shores? OOPS! Please to forgive me! I am slipping up on my history. Yes! They did attract the Casa Blanca hotel to our shores, but guess what? The same prominent member of the PAM hierarchy who was so prominent in driving away investors when Labour was in power, took the Casa Blanca investors who had already begun construction on the hotel at the Southeast Peninsular and carted them down to Anguilla, where he claimed he received a better deal from the Anguilla Government. This individual was TRUE to FORM eh?

Life is really like unto a boomerang; whatever you throw out at it that is exactly what will be returned to you full force! When Dr. Douglas became the Leader of the country, in a short time, he was able to attract the Marriott Hotel Chain to the country. The Official PAM Driver, who drove away of investments from the country had already travelled to the Spirit World, but the Democrat Newspaper kept hammering at the project, hoping that they could drive the investors away from the country. How could Dr. Douglas succeed where they failed? They even accused the investors of smuggling in the white stuff in their containers. This was done even though a big PAMITE was the Customs broker for the Hotel. Dr. Douglas, the Statesman who he is, did not place any boulders in the pathway of the young man. It is quite obvious to all and sundry that PAM is a TREACHEROUS BEAST. Here was one of their own making a livelihood from the construction of a hotel in his land of birth and here they were, hell bent on taking away food from the mouth of this young man.
My departed granny used to say that force make water go up hill, and I am here to compliment the present Minister of Tourism who was the leader of PAM then, for apologizing in the same Democrat Newspaper for the attacks on the integrity of the investors to our shores; the young man was able to continue his job as the broker. When the Treacherous Act of BETRAYAL was launched upon the Leader and the Labour Party, the Betrayer went and joined with the forces that were driving away investments to our shores, since its appearance on the political landscape in 1965. Another of Granny’s sayings come to mind, “You become like those with whom you associate!” “Birds of a feather usually flock together!” Dr. Timothy Harris immediately came down with the FLU of driving away investors, when Dr. Douglas announced the many investments he had brought to our shores. Right away, Dr. Harris began LAUNCHING nuclear tipped missiles at these investors, for like his newly bonded pals who were well versed in the art of chasing away investors, he too who was financed by the oligarchs, did not wish for any investments to take place in the country.

But, look at the difference? Here is Dr. Harris declaring that he has been successful in bringing the hotel here and not one Labour supporter or leader gets up and condemn it? Is this a demonstration of the supporters of Labour and their Leaders loyalty to the land of their birth? The construction of a new hotel is a plus for the country, so, should it be opposed for opposing sake? Sister Mar Williams seems to be caught off guard because I welcomed the project, but what did she expect of me other than to support the venture? It is in the interest and the welfare of my country! In the early stages of PAM’S rule, they passed a piece of legislation in the House and Comrade Lee Llewellyn Moore the Leader of the Opposition pointed out some flaws in it and then supported its passing and everybody on the Government’s side was shocked. Mr. Moore rose and pointed out that the particular piece of legislation benefitted the whole country and so he supports it. The lesson was too rich for the PAM leaders and supporters, for up to now, they have not learned that the Country comes first. Isn’t our Motto, “COUNTRY ABOVE SELF?” Are these words just empty echoings or are they intended to instill LOVE and PATRIOTISM of country? But PAM has never ever practiced the words of our Country’s MOTTO?

Just the other day in 2014-2015, they were driving away investments from the country they wanted to govern when they were on the campaign trail. Today, they are opening those same investments which the Labour Party brought to the shores of our country and behaving as if they were the architects of their arrival. If Labour were to regain power whenever the Elections are called, will St. Kitts still belong to the unity mirage? Can a Leopard change its TREACHEROUS SPOTS so easily? ONLY TIME ALONE WILL TELL!
