BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 22nd March 2022) — David Rivero Perez, the newly-appointed resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in St. Kitts-Nevis, on Monday 21st March 2022 paid a courtesy visit to the office of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union at its headquarters at Masses House on Church Street in Basseterre. Union General Secretary Precious Mills spoke about the nature of the organisation in championing the cause of workers. President Sydney Bridgewater expressed gratitude to Ambassador Rivero Perez for visiting, and looked forward to a close working relationship.

In an interview with the Labour Spokesman, the Cuban ambassador informed that he has been in the Federation since December 2021, having been in India for his most recent residential post. “I came here with my family, and I honestly feel like home because it’s an island similar to Cuba with the sea and the mountains so we can breathe fresh air,” he said. The ambassador highlighted that he has received a “warm welcome” from every place he has visited in St. Kitts-Nevis, noting meetings with government and ministers about the strong relationship with Cuba in the health sector and the training of St. Kitts-Nevis students. “The idea is to try to continue the relationship, and if possible to expand to other sectors like the trade sector, health technology — all that we can do for St. Kitts-Nevis, we are very excited to do that,” he added.
