On Wednesday 23 March 2022 at a modest ceremony in the Poinciana Conference Room of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, the Joshua Obadiah Williams Monetary 2022 Award (EC$3,000) was presented to Nevisian teacher Janiecia Alisha Powell. The award is given annually to the Division of Teacher Education graduating teacher who receives the top grade from the University of the West Indies Examinations. Janiecia was a Nevisian student in the Early Childhood Program at CFBC, with a near-perfect GPA.
Joshua Obadiah Williams, after whom the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School in Molineux is named, was born in 1926 in Barnes Ghaut, Nevis. He completed studies at Barbados’ Erdiston Teachers College in 1957 and at the University of the West Indies in 1965, was appointed Headmaster of the Molineux All-Age School, and retired from the Basseterre Boys School in the early 1980s. He is remembered as an educator, philosopher, poet, disciplinarian, and humanitarian. Janiecia Alisha Powell, born in April 1995 in Prospect Estate, Nevis, attended the Ivor Walters Primary School, the Charlestown Secondary School, and CFBC for Sixth Form. She expressed gratitude to the Williams family, Dean Dr Pennyfeather and all lecturers for their love and support during her studies.
