Police Find Different Date Details In Deadly Missing Man Matter; Half-Brother Charged With Murder

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 24th March 2022) — Police investigation has led to updated information about the date when 40-year-old Mario Riley was last seen and the date when he was killed. The Tabernacle resident was reported missing and found dead almost two weeks later. A police statement issued on Wednesday 23rd March 2022 indicated that the death of Mario Riley was a homicide, and that 25-year-old Shakeem Thomas of Basseterre has been charged with his murder. Credible information reaching this media house indicates that the accused, currently in police custody, is the victim’s half-brother from his father’s side.

Police say the offence was committed on March 01. Initially, police reported that Riley was last seen on Thursday 3rd March. A police spokesperson explained: “When he was first reported missing, the Police began making enquiries. They had received some information that indicated that Riley was last seen on March 03, 2022. The investigation has since led to evidence which revealed otherwise.” Riley was reported missing on Sunday 6th March, and his body was found on the evening of Friday 18th March, semi-clad along a dirt road leading to Beaumont Park in Dieppe Bay.
