CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, May 30, 2022 (MMS-SKN) — The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU) Limited continued giving back to its members as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, presenting care packages to six women members on Friday May 27. “We at the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union continue to recognise the role they have played in making our financial institution the success it is today,” said General Manager’s Executive Officer Ms Patulia Huggins, coordinator of the 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee. The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union, the oldest credit union in the Federation, was registered on July 25, 1972, and is celebrating under the theme ‘Consistency, Financial Security & Serving the Community — 50 years of Development and Prosperity.’

Among the six women honoured, three were long-standing older members — the eldest being 76-year-old former Four Seasons Resort steward Ms Idetha Manners — and three were young single mothers who are active members. Ms Idella Wallace, who opened her account with just 16 dollars after being encouraged by one of the credit union’s founding fathers, Mr Ingle Blackett (now deceased), reflected: “I just want to thank Mr Blackett for encouraging me, may his soul rest in peace. I want to thank everybody — all the workers. I want to thank you for greeting me and giving me encouragement.” Ms Joy Springette, who was introduced to the credit union by her mother as a child, expressed gratitude: “I am grateful that they have considered me for this special gift as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of service to the good people of Nevis. I wish the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union another 50 and more years of service.”
