Elderly Swimmer Missing Off Charlestown Pier

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 24th August 2018)– A 71-year-old male swimmer went missing yesterday morning after last seen somewhere off the Charlestown Pier in Nevis.

Police are reporting that a “search operation has been launched for a man feared missing at sea.”

That man is Curiel Robinson of Charlestown.

To date, the St. Kitts-Nevis Coast Guard has conducted searches at sea, while the police have searched on land.

At about 11 a.m. yesterday police received a report that Robinson had gone swimming and did not return.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that at 6 a.m. Robinson met with another person.

Police say enquiries have revealed that he (Robinson) swam from Fort Charles heading towards Jessups, while the other person walked to the same area.

Reportedly, the last place he was seen was somewhere off the Charlestown Pier.

The Police spoke with a number of persons in the area, but are still urging persons who might have seen something or know anything regarding this incident to contact the Charlestown Police Station at 469-5391/5392.

The Police and Coast Guard continue the search operation today (Friday).
