BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 2nd October 2018) –From a graphic photo circulating via social media, the dead man found in a drain yesterday (Monday) in the East Basseterre community was immediately recognised by some residents of the area and others who knew him following that early morning gruesome discovery.

John Gumbs of Pond Road has been identified by police as the fatally stabbed victim.

Notably, persons who facially recognised the deceased were unable to give his birth name thus only producing nicknames; ‘Ras’ being one of them.

He is believed to be in his 50s.

Police received a report of a body being found lying in a drain on Branch Street at about 6:25 a.m.

The Police responded and, upon arrival, found Gumb’s motionless body with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

In the photo seen by this media house, it was observed that some kind of internal body part was partially exposed following the stabbing attack.

Police are making an appeal to anyone who might have any information in relation to this incident to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1887, 467-1888, or 662-3468 or their nearest Police Station. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
