BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday 27th September 2018)– Eyewitnesses have pointed at the driver of a government-owned vehicle for causing the traffic accident which took place shortly before 6:00 PM at the intersection of Fort and Cayon Streets on Tuesday this week.

The crash involved vehicles van G 17- ( Ministry of National Security HMS Prison Prisoner Transport Vehicle) and motor jeep PB 1331, driven by a male and female respectively.

According to eyewitness reports, the van driver was unquestionably at fault in causing that collision.
As gathered, G17 was travelling westerly along Cayon Street while the other vehicle was turning east onto Cayon Street while moving off Fort Street.

One motorist explained that while travelling along Fort Street on the left hand side, PB 1331 was on the right side.

“She was on the right and I was in left lane when vehicles were travelling along Fort Street came to a stop at the red lights signal. When the light turned green, the driver moved out of the stop turning east along Cayon Street when the crash happened. She is not wrong.”

Additionally, while on the scene, this media house observed a passer-by speaking to a police officer, also defending the driver of PB 1331.

“Officer, she nuh wrong. The light was green on her side when she turned. She nuh wrong officer,” he said.

This media house understands that someone was being transported to the hospital at the time in the government-owned vehicle.

Some bystanders blamed the driver of G17 for not having on a siren while others said that the siren was put on after the crash while some indicated that the siren was put on just when the driver of the government vehicle noticed that he was not going to catch the green light.

Additionally, other people expressed that the siren was not loud enough.

“You could barely hear that siren”, commented someone.

This media house has been unsuccessful in getting information on the incident from the Traffic Department.
