Has Amory Emotionally Pushed Out Himself?

The big news that is making its rounds at this time is the news that the Hon. Premier of Nevis Mr. Vance Amory has passed the baton of leadership of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) on to his Deputy the Hon. Mark Brantley. The Hon. Vance Amory will retire from active politics and the CCM Party will field Mr. Eric Evelyn in place of Mr. Vance Amory to contest the seat in Gingerland, Nevis.

A majority of people have acclaimed Mr. Amory’s move as a mark of political maturity and magnanimity, as he is giving up active politics voluntarily. He is not giving up active politics because of pressure from anywhere or any side and he is still in the very best of health.
However, a number of close political observers have worked out that Mr. Amory is leaving active politics, because of the part which he played in pushing his CCM party into a ruling Coalition with the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the People’s Labour Party (PLP).
Mr. Amory is said, by many different people, to have observed that the Team Unity Government has not worked out well for the people and has converted the island of Nevis into a ward of St. Kitts.

Premier Amory cannot now, without great damage to his reputation and his legacy, withdraw his CCM Party from the ruling PAM/CCM/PLP Coalition. Since he cannot in practical terms withdraw his party from the ruling PAM/CCM/PLP Coalition, he has taken the decision to withdraw himself from active politics.

Within the last 2 to 3 years or so, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has given rise to a new generation of soothsayers who have taken on the duty of telling others, when they should vacate the leadership of whichever party, institution, organisation or tribunal they happen to be involved in or with.

The trouble with such soothsayers is that their soothsaying is not entirely devoid of personal self-interest and in addition, soothsayers of one group do not always agree with soothsayers of another group.

We have to be extremely careful when engaged in soothsaying, for it is well-known that the less SOOTH (not soot), we put into our soothsaying, the less genuine, the less authentic and the less useful we will be in our soothsaying.

It is a good policy to be always guided by what the Bible says: We should first pick the Beam out of our own eyes so that we are able to see better to pick the mote out of our neighbours’ eyes.
