BASSETERRE (Friday 19th March 2021) — Forty patrons of a Nevis bar were placed in quarantine after a group of 8 US nationals staying at a resort violated the COVID-19 vacation-in-place rule on 12–13 March 2021. Two guests left the compound on the afternoon of 12 March; six others left between 1–2 a.m. on 13 March to visit a nearby bar. The surveillance footage was reviewed and all eight were arrested, charged, and each fined $4,000. They pleaded guilty before the Charlestown Magistrate Court. All COVID-19 tests for the quarantined persons returned negative. Superintendent Cromwell Henry urged the public to use the vacation-in-place period responsibly and not visit persons in quarantine.
