BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 30th September 2021) — A total of seventeen (17) St. Kitts-Nevis nationals have been selected to pursue academic studies in the Republic of China (Taiwan) as the 2021 recipients of the Taiwan Scholarship Award programme. A luncheon awards ceremony organised by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis was held on Wednesday 29th September 2021 at Marshall’s Restaurant in Frigate Bay.
The eleven MOFA awardees are: Ainka Saunders, Lysanna Belle, Devaughn Amory, Lennox Bedford, Joeline Williams, Danielle Lake, Ezrah Brandy, Nicolla Connor, Patrick Brandy, Destin Liburd and Jemar Davis. The six ICDF (International Cooperative and Development Fund) awardees are: Hance Melito Richards, Saquelle Augustus Sealey, Elton Dillonee Thomas John, Kevrone George Phipps, T’Shauni Juvaun Jahleel Zakers and Glendille Rochelle Huggins. Fifteen will study for Bachelor’s Degrees and two will pursue Doctorates. Disciplines include Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, International Health, Global Health & Health Security, Life Science, International Business, Mass Communication, Hospitality and Film Studies. Taiwan Ambassador Michael Lin said: “Education and human resources are the cornerstone for national development, and over the years it has been our great pleasure to provide scholarship opportunities to support the bright minds and talented youngsters of St. Kitts and Nevis in their pursuit of academic degrees in Taiwan.” PM Dr. Timothy Harris encouraged recipients to honestly interrogate why they are pursuing their chosen degree, so that they can return and be productive contributors to national development.
