BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 18th May 2022) — A well-known Chinese businessman who had been residing in St. Kitts-Nevis for more than seven years has died. ‘Sam’ is the name of the deceased individual who owned and operated a supermarket located in John England Village along the island main road in the St. Peter’s community. Many people would also remember him at a restaurant he owned and operated along Cayon Street in Basseterre. He is said to have suffered a seizure and was pronounced dead at the Joseph N. France General Hospital. The fatal incident happened on Sunday 15th May 2022.

Members of the community, customers, workers as well as Sam’s wife gathered outside the supermarket on Wednesday 18th May for a candlelight vigil in his memory. Customers upon reflecting about Sam’s personality continue to express sadness for the business owner who is said to have been very friendly and kind to those who visited his place of business, especially his regular shoppers. Sam, as some customers recall, allowed them to leave with goods if they were short of the overall balance without making a fuss or demanding they settle the full amount. ‘Sam was cool’ and ‘Sam got along with everybody’ are two popular phrases echoed by those saddened by his passing.
