BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 2nd February 2023)- Police on St. Kitts are investigating two separate shooting deaths of two young men killed in Basseterre which happened within – LOCAL NEWS – less than a week of which the latest incident took place at a popular eatery.
Dead are 29-year-old Dequan Maloney of Mc Knight but who resided at Bird Rock and 30-year-old Sylvester Crossley of Half Way Tree. A police statement issued on Thursday 2nd February 2023 revealed that a fatal shooting incident occurred on February 01 at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday involving Crossley.
Investigations so far have revealed that he went into a business establishment and, while waiting, he was accosted by a lone, masked gunman who shot him several times about the body then fled the scene. The District Medical Officer pronounced Crossley dead and the crime scene was processed by personnel from the Forensic Services Unit.
Police did not reveal the name of the business establishment but this media house notes that the deadly shooting happened at Uncle T’s located on Cayon Street. It is said that other customers were at the business place at the time of the incident but no one else was injured.
In relation to Maloney, police say investigations so far have revealed that sometime between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on , multiple explosive sounds were heard in the Morne Heights area where Maloney resided, however, nothing was reported to the Police. It was further reported that close to 5 a.m. on , a report was made to the Police of a body being found in that area.
Officers responded and, upon arrival, Maloney’s lifeless body was found inside the trunk of a motorcar with what appeared to be gunshot wounds about the body. The Officers also observed that Maloney’s apartment appeared to have been entered by force and was ransacked.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene and pronounced him dead. Personnel from the Forensic Department processed the scene and collected items of evidential value. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
