BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Tuesday 7th June 2022) — Guest Speaker at the recently held 90th Conference of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Shawn Edward — Deputy Political Leader of the St. Lucia Labour Party — called upon citizens and residents to fix the negative image of the Federation by electing the SKNLP at the polls in the upcoming General Elections. “Nowadays in St. Lucia, in Jamaica, in Trinidad, in Dominica, once you turn on your television set or your radio, St. Kitts and Nevis, your country is in the headlines night after night for all the wrong reasons. St. Kitts and Nevis, you need to fix that problem and you need to fix it now. You need to restore the image of your country,” he said, addressing hundreds of party supporters dressed in red at the Atiba Erasto Harris Stadium in St. Peter’s on Sunday 5th June 2022.

Edward underscored his firm belief in SKNLP’s victory: “I have been on the road from Friday. I left an OECS ministerial meeting prematurely just to ensure that I could be here with you today, and I wouldn’t pay for a plane ticket, I wouldn’t land at five different airports in three days to be here and tell you things that I don’t know are factual. The polls are showing that you are on course for victory. The polls are showing that the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party will form the next government, but my brothers and sisters, you have to work for it; you have to continue to soldier on for your party.”

He applauded the SKNLP team and the party’s legacy: “It was the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party that presided over the most prosperous period of economic buoyancy, economic growth and economic stability in the history of this twin-island Federation. It was the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party that presided over the transitioning of the economy from sugar to a service-based economy. Your revenue streams were so healthy and your reserves at the ECCB were the envy of the rest of the Caribbean. Your country was so strong at the time that you were called upon on several occasions to help other OECS member state countries navigate their own difficulties. St. Kitts and Nevis needs stability. Your country needs a stable government. Your country needs a team of men and women who believe in each other and who are committed to the forward march of this country.”
