The Labour Spokesman Editorial
From near and far, citizens and other truly concerned persons have been tuning in to St Kitts and Nevis, enquiring as to just what is taking place in our beloved country. On Tuesday night of this week Mr Glenroy Blanchette launched a new programme, and immediately provided some of the answers to those questions. As he pointed out, the Labour administration of Dr Denzil Douglas was subjected to some very serious undermining over many years — almost from the very beginning. It turns out that the naked emperor had been ‘feeding’ cabinet and other sensitive information to top leaders and officials in PAM, virtually for the entirety of his tenure, repeatedly violating a sacred oath of secrecy and committing very serious criminal offences, since the proceedings of cabinet are constitutionally secret.
Last Sunday the Labour Party held its Annual Conference. Using a new venue and format, the exercise was deemed a great success. Our new Party Leader, Comrade Doctor Terrence Drew, electrified the gathering with a most stirring address, promising great advances in health, education, social development, sports and games, and many other areas of development. Expressing his great love and concern for our elderly and retired persons, Comrade Drew promised positive actions to end the practice of insurers denying such persons health coverage at the time in their lives when they most need such protection — a commitment that brought forth thunderous applause.
The guest speaker, Mr Shawn Edwards of the St Lucia Labour Party, gave an important warning: he detected very high levels of enthusiasm amongst our people, but warned that if this is not translated into action it will all be of no avail. He repeatedly warned our people that they need to be registered to vote, and turn out in their numbers on election day and cast their ballots, because it is only that which goes into the boxes that can be counted. The conference ended with a rally, and it was very clear that enthusiasm is high, indeed very high. Beyond any shadow of a doubt our people are anxious and determined to take back their government. We must all be Red and Ready — but we MUST also be able to vote. Ensure, one and all, that you are registered to vote.
