BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 10th February 2022) — Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Timothy Harris has revealed that restrictions will be reduced on mass events and sporting activities, effective Saturday 12th February 2022. He made the announcement at his press conference held on Thursday 10th February at NEMA Headquarters. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws clarified that vaccination entry requirements for events would depend on the specific event, its level of risk, and the organizer: “I don’t think we can give a blanket statement. What we can say is it depends on the event or the activity and level of risk and the organizer. Those would be the determining factors as to whether patrons would be vaccinated or unvaccinated, and I think this would be announced ahead of the event.”

In terms of sporting activities, the COVID-19 National Tasks Force has already granted approval for the restart of football, specifically the grassroots youth and women’s league and the senior women’s league, following meetings with the SKNFA. The committee also met with the athletic association and approval was granted for under-12 athletics sporting meets. The CMO further noted recent engagement with the amateur basketball association to discuss how basketball can resume.
