Miss Independent Crowned Senior Calypso Monarch Again

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (January 2018)- The youngest ever competitor talented Miss Independent (Karisia Willett) continues to dominate the calypso arena since her debut in 2017 when she made history to become the first ever Female National Senior Calypso Monarch, and now making history again as the first female to two-peat.

On Saturday 29th December the songstress was crowned the new Senior Calypso Monarch for the second consecutive year having earned a total of 807 points; a whopping 28 points ahead of her closest rival.

Miss Independent performed her popular tune ‘Ratatat’ which addresses the issue of crime and violence, and she did not disappoint the audience as a thunderous applause was given following her performance.

Notably, this year, it is safe to say that the females dominated the Calypso arena as all top spots were taken by female artistes and six of the eight finalists were also women.

First- Runner-Up went to Lady Diva who amassed a total of 779 points.

Charis D came in Second-Runner-Up with 774 points while Third-Runner up was adjudged to Queen Brown Sugar who ended the competition with 772 points.

The other finalists in the Sugar Mas 47 Senior Calypso Monarch Competition were Queen Kibie (Miss Independent’s older sister), Lil Miss, and the two males, De Awesome Navigator and King Godfrey.

Miss Independent is currently the reigning Female Calypso Bacchanal Queen.

Recognition and special presentation to the only living National Hero, the Right Excellent and the Right Honourable Dr. Sir Kennedy Simmonds will also take place.
