Because this government is trying so hard not to complete any Labour project, a whole set of Kittitians including myself have to face the indignity of catching water to bathe and to flush our toilets. In 2021! St. Kitts is supposed to be a progressive country. We have over one hundred percent cell phone penetration. The most humble of houses have internet, electricity and indoor plumbing. But if I make the mistake of wanting to use the toilet or take a shower and Team Unity has shut off the water, I have to cover down the toilet and forget about the shower until the following morning.
But the relevant authorities don’t have time to bother with ordinary people’s bread and butter issues. The relevant authorities have water tanks attached to the many homes acquired by them since 2015. And it is a certainty that the multi-billion dollar housing project that was launched by the relevant authorities will have more than water tanks — this “project” will probably have its own reservoir, because there must never ever be the remotest possibility that any of these owners has no water to bathe, brush their teeth or flush their toilets.
The focus of all of those in authority is without doubt totally misdirected. That is why the main road took a year and a Sunday to be completed. That is why the traffic lights have been up since before COVID reached the federation and they are yet to be turned on. The adjustments to the Bird Rock road, deemed necessary to accommodate the business of those in authority, and the traffic lights are yet to be completed.
The hard part is that nobody in authority is saying anything to anyone. Road users and taxpayers in general have been once again left wondering when will it all be over.
Instead, everybody in and out of the federation is talking about the upcoming elections for the leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. It is obvious that the leadership race has attracted the attention of so many because the majority of people in the federation want to see new faces and new ideas in Government Headquarters. That is what a St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party government with a new leader will guarantee: competent leadership, honest leadership, caring leadership.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is the only party that offers real progress and prosperity to all in the federation. Any one of the three gentlemen competing to be the leader of our great party can take the baton from our beloved Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Llewellyn Douglas and continue on that path of progress and prosperity. That is why everybody wants to be a part of the November 28, 2021, Labour Party elections. Onward and forward with Labour.
