We have to commend the protesters who defied all the threats of the high command of the police and took to the streets of Basseterre on Thursday morning of this week. No doubt these former employees had made up their minds. They were walking down the road and the police would do what they wanted to do. I believe that were it not for Lindsay Grant’s total disrespect of the police and the fact that up to now the police can’t do him one thing, the security forces would have been out in even greater numbers and would have locked up all of the protesters. The high command of the police knew that all eyes were on them, waiting to see what they would do. And in the end, the police could only drive around and around in a last-ditch effort to save some face.
It was incident-free. No lock-ups. No confiscation of cell phones. No confiscation of placards. Just people walking and police driving. But the police really needs to focus their attention on other matters. For a while now, we have been hearing about paedophiles on the loose in certain areas. If, after two women said that they would have a march into town the police issued a press release warning against it, how come a serious matter like the sexual molestation and abuse of children did not get the attention of the high command of the police Force? Why wouldn’t the police investigate the allegations just to make sure?
The real reason for the press release from the police and the ensuing attempts at intimidation are simple. Timothy does not want any semblance of opposition to him. People inside and outside of the federation must believe that everybody loves him. People inside and outside of the federation must believe that Timothy is a good man, a caring man. And any suggestion to the contrary has to be rooted out. Timothy has always been like this. That is why he never takes the blame for anything.
