I don’t know if it is mere coincidence but the very next day after Shawn’s Facebook live, the KFC road expansion project resumed. And the speed with which the offending portion of the sidewalk that Patches built was ripped up and replaced by a curvy sidewalk that Shawn built suggests to me that we may very well have our traffic lights turned on before the weekend. I am relieved because after more than two years of eager anticipation, road users can breathe a collective sigh of relief that this plethora of traffic lights will finally be turned on.
What is disturbing yet pellucidly clear, however, is that this major road project was undertaken to accommodate one single business venture. All other businesses and road users were made to suffer as absolutely no consideration had been given to us. The government was only forced to stop the roadworks because there was major pushback from certain business entities. But for the pushback, the utter disrespect and disregard being meted out to us would have continued with the usual unmitigated gall. Could it be that Wendy was not able to foresee that some serious conversations were necessary with the other nearby businesses and road users before installation of these traffic lights began?
Another nightmare I endured was Shawn’s Facebook live and his subsequent attempt at damage control on Thursday. While on Monday he had a red Bible on his desk, I looked keenly but I didn’t see a Bible of any colour near him on Thursday. From the time he appeared on Issues, it was obvious that he had been chastised about being so “ratchet” on his LIVE. Let me remind Shawn that there is lying by commission and there is lying by omission. And Shawn is guilty of both. On Monday it was omission. On Thursday it was commission. My St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party comrades, we must fan the flames when our enemies seem to be at war. But while we are hootsing them on, we must do our work. We must not get distracted. We have too much work to do.
