BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 10th June 2021) — Medical Chief of Staff at the JNF General Hospital Dr. Cameron Wilkinson has spoken out strongly against the spread of a social media post falsely claiming that a hospitalised COVID-19 patient had died, while the patient was in fact stable and recovering. Speaking on ‘Leadership Matters’ on ZIZ on Tuesday 8th June, Dr. Wilkinson said: “You could imagine how tough that was on the patient, on the patient’s family. I even got calls and WhatsApp messages from the UK and North America asking if we got our first death.”

“For someone to be doing that, it must be a malicious attempt. We can have disagreements but we don’t need to be enemies and we don’t need to misconstrue information — especially when someone is in the hospital fighting to get better,” Dr. Wilkinson said. He called on all persons to stick to the facts and avoid spreading unverified information about COVID-19 cases. St. Kitts-Nevis has had no COVID-19-related deaths to date.
