Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top US infectious disease expert, said the UK was not as rigorous as the US in its COVID-19 vaccine approval process after the UK became the first country to approve the Pfizer vaccine. “The UK did not do it as carefully. If you go quickly and you do it superficially, people are not going to want to get vaccinated,” he said on Fox News. The FDA planned to meet on 10 December to discuss approval for the UK-approved vaccine, and again on 17 December to discuss the Moderna vaccine. The US was nearing 14 million total COVID-19 infections, with 273,590 deaths recorded.
