SKN French Cultural Centre To Host Fundraiser

By: Precious Mills
BASSETERRE, St.Kitts- (Saturday 14th July 2018)– Come next Saturday (21st July), the Alliance Française de St. Kitts and Nevis is slated to host a Fundraising French Buffet Dinner in the celebration of Bastille Day-the National Day of France commemorated on 14th July- at Government House located Springfield from 7:00PM to 10:30PM.

The event, aimed at raising monies to assist with the operational cost of that non-profit organisation, will be held under the distinguished patronage the Governor General Sir Tapley Seaton and with the presence of the Ambassador of France to the OECS Philippe Ardanaz.

On the menu will be French food items like baguettes, French bread, croissant, French cheese, smoked and cooked ham, gratin de pommes de terre (potato) while the beverage list will include wine and rum punch.

In a sit-down interview with Director of the Alliance Française Marine Macout, she touched on the importance of the keeping the centre, which is directed by a local committee, afloat for the success of its day to day operation in the Federation.

She also called upon anyone who is willing to support the centre in the interest of sustainability in seeing it “more active and present” to come on board to assist since running that type of centre “is not cheap.”

Macout pointed of that some persons might not see the Alliance Française as being vulnerable but quickly noted: “We need to raise funds. It is a necessity at this point. It might not be seen as vulnerable… but it’s a centre that is based here and the initiatives are local.”

Macout also touched on the event as providing “for the local community to have a possibility of giving another exposure for the youths that are here… and we see that we have students who are studying French in school…”

She shared that the aim of the centre is “to promote the French culture, the French language. Our goal is to do some things at the lowest cost possible to be accessible to the largest population because our aim is to promote education and culture. When we organised the French Singing Competition [held in February], we looked at bigger events because bigger events can attract more crowd and sponsors too.”

According to her, the upcoming fundraiser is “a way for us to pull certain crowds…people who are attracted by the French culture or by the French language or only by the fact that there are supporting foreign languages on the island.”

Event sponsors include Spice Mill, Poinciana, Sweet & Savory, St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino, Discovery bar, Sprat Net, Carib Brewery, Koscab, Ti Amo, Island Bakeries, Mixitalia SKN, Corks and Screws, Les Grands Vins de France, Opus Fine Wines and Spirits and also The Department of Culture.

Entertainment will include French songs by first runner up of the French Singing Competition Turquoisa Henry, DJ Legal as well as The Actors (of St. Peter’s), one of the traditional troupes of St. Kitts inspired by the French Heritage.
The dress code is ‘Elegant in red, white or blue’.

Ticket prices are EC$125 for members and EC$150 for non-members. Interested persons are asked to note that they do not have to necessarily include the three altogether in their outfits.

Tickets can be booked by WhatsApp at 1-869-667-9019 (Marine Macout) or purchased at the Alliance Française de St. Kitts and Nevis located at 1 Orchid Street, from Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 4:30PM.

Hobson Explains Success Of Music Festival

By: Precious Mills

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Wednesday 11th July 2018)-Chairman of the St.Kitts Music Festival Damion Hobson has identified five (5) areas linked to the “excellent” labelling of the recently concluded 22nd annual extravaganza held 28th to 30th June at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

At a post-festival press conference held yesterday (Tuesday) at the Ministry of Tourism on Port Zante, while reporting on the outcome of this year’s event, he credited Artiste Selection, Production, Finance, Volunteer Pool and Prompt Payment to Vendors.
“My philosophy in management of this Festival was based on five pillars,” he shared.

As expressed by Chairman Hobson: “I am very happy to announce that the 2108 Music Festival was one of the best editions in the twenty two years of history of the festival. This year was excellent. The crowd attendance for each night was super, the management was professional and the production overall was first class.”

In addressing the area of artiste selection, he commented: “This year we made a conscious effort to move away from the strict regimen of theme nights of Soca and Calypso, Dancehall and Reggae and Soul and R&B, Hip Hop and Rap. Instead we explored a new template that saw us featuring mixed genres on each night. For instance, we had Destra and Kes the Band mixed with Spice. We had Sizzla and Ishawna [and also] Patti Labelle and Fetti Wap.”

Next, on the point about production, he has this to say: “From very early I said to the committee that persons may complain about the long lines at the gates and difficulty to get a drink at the bars but they should never ever complain about the production. This year after the bidding process was completed, we selected Rent-A- Amp and I think we can all agree that the stage, lighting and sound this year were world class… exceptional. Rent-A-Amp brought with them a level of professionalism and dedication to the festival that was definitely needed.”

Hobson linked stage management as being the other part of production as he applauded the new team that came onboard.

“This year we put trust in [Raphael] Phonse and Team from Impel Marketing and Event [Management] and what a job they did. The show started on time, artiste changeover was at a minimum and the shows ended on time; all in all a great performance.
Additionally, in relation to finance, he thanks Minister of Tourism Lindsay Grant; Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Timothy Harris and the entire cabinet of St.Kitts and Nevis for support given.

“Last year we requested monies for the early launch of artistes and we were well received and got the support that we wanted and this helped to make a big difference.”
He expressed thanks to all value sponsors for support and revealed that Carib Brewery (St.Kitts-Nevis) Ltd. has already advised on its 2019 involvement.

Hobson went on to point out that this year, St. Kitts Music Festival Committee invested more in the training of all of the committees and volunteers especially the liaison officers.
“From all reports, I think it is safe to say that it paid off because the level of professionalism and service this year surpassed our expectations.”

On his last point which he praised for a successful 2018 festival was the prompt payment to vendors; a pillar which he says is “dear to me.”

Hobson highlighted: “You cannot claim to have a successful festival when weeks and months after, vendors are yet to be paid. Through sound and discipline fiscal management, we have been paying our vendors regularly and I’m extremely happy and pleased this morning…to announce that all payments to vendors for the 2018 Music Festival are ready to be distributed. I therefore encourage all who have not submitted their invoices to do so soon.”

Tiny Hurricane Beryl Intensifying, May Reach Lesser Antilles as a Hurricane Late Sunday or Monday

At a Glance

  • In less than a day, Beryl went from an area of interest to the first hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.
  • This tiny hurricane may strengthen a tad more into Saturday.
  • It will eventually encounter increasing wind shear and weaken, but that may not occur until early next week.
  • Thus, it’s increasingly possible Beryl may impact the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane.
  • Beryl may survive as a tropical cyclone into the central Caribbean early next week.

Hurricane Beryl, while tiny in size, is intensifying in the Atlantic Ocean well east of the Lesser Antilles, and its chances of striking the Antilles as a hurricane early next week are increasing.

This tiny hurricane is currently located over 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands, moving west.

(The highest cloud tops, corresponding to the most vigorous convection, are shown in the brightest red colors. Clustering, deep convection around the center is a sign of a healthy tropical cyclone.)

Beryl was upgraded to a hurricane based on microwave and infrared satellite imagery showing a “pinhole eye” had developed early Friday morning.

Its tropical storm-force winds extend only up to about 35 miles from its center.

Beryl’s Current Wind Field

(The orange circle shows the extent of the system’s tropical storm-force winds (at least 39 mph). The purple circle indicates the extent of hurricane-force winds (at least 74 mph), according to the National Hurricane Center.)

Intensity forecasts with tropical cyclones as tiny as Beryl are notoriously difficult.

Given barely enough ocean heat content (sea-surface temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit), low wind shear, and its location south of a plume of sinking, dry air known as the Saharan air layer, Beryl intensified quickly from a tropical depression at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday to a Category 1 hurricane just 18 hours later.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), these favorable conditions may remain in place the next few days, and Beryl could gain even more intensity.

At some point, upper-level winds are expected to become hostile to Beryl near the Lesser Antilles.

The timing of when that wind shear impacts Beryl will be critical.

image
Current Satellite and Wind Shear

(The current tropical system is shown by the icon at lower right. Areas of strong wind shear, the difference in wind speed and direction with height, are shown in purple. High wind shear is hostile to tropical cyclones and those trying to develop.)

If the wind shear kicks in later, Beryl may survive as a hurricane by the time it reaches the Lesser Antilles late Sunday or Monday.

The NHC said hurricane watches may be required for parts of the Lesser Antilles soon.

If the wind shear kicks in earlier, Beryl may weaken sooner, and may sweep into the islands as a weaker storm.

Given Beryl’s tiny size, it’s too soon to determine which islands may see impacts and how strong the impacts will be, but periods of heavy rain, gusty winds and at least some locally choppy seas can be expected, regardless.

Projected Path

(The red-shaded area denotes the potential path of the center of the tropical cyclone. It’s important to note that impacts (particularly heavy rain, high surf, coastal flooding, winds) with any tropical cyclone usually spread beyond its forecast path.)

There is now the chance Beryl may survive in some form into the central Caribbean Sea early next week, though it is expected to have been weakened to some degree, possibly completely ripped apart, from wind shear by that time.

Those in the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti should monitor the progress of Beryl. We’ll have the latest updates on weather.com.

ELECTIONS,CHOICES AND FAMALAAYYY!!!

By:FAIR SHARE FOR ALL

After careful and deliberate consideration of the flurry of activities that is taking place in the federation, I am convinced that Timothy Harris and the rest of Team Unity are planning an early election.

Crime is out of control, and they do not have the faintest idea as to how to take even a bite out of crime. So since there are no millions of dollars in kickbacks to be made unless they are importing illegal weapons and illegal drugs, finding any real solutions to crime has been put way, way back on the back burner.

It seems as if they have determined that if they focus on traffic lights, bus terminals, second cruise piers and knocking down and rebuilding the West Street and Wellington Road apartments in two months’ time, nobody will care when the murders increase.
But even Dwyer recognised that something is up and asked about the cement company of a particular minister.

Trust me. Something going on.

And for those of us who understand how Team Unity works, we know that it is more than construction that is going on.

The company contracted to build the apartments went to a certain cement company where the cement of a particular minister was moved to from the Industrial Site.

The cement for the second pier, the bus terminals, the West Street houses all have particular distinguishing marks on them.

Muddoh with scandal!

Whoever said that crime doesn’t pay never heard of Team Unity.

Crime and criminality are their fingerprints.

And that is why Clecton Phillip is right. If our government ministers can be caught up in international crimes, how do we expect the youngsters to behave differently?

A man calling into ISSUES on Monday pointed out how happy he was that no one had been killed over the weekend.

Who would have thought that for how Timothy Harris and the rest of the Team Unity platform used to rant and rave about Douglas being responsible for crime, and that one crime was one crime too many, that these words would have ever been uttered under Timothy Harris’s watch?

And as I say Timothy Harris’s watch, perhaps I should also say Timothy Harris’s shoes.
That is why they are holding on to the diplomatic passport. That is why the “indecent haste”, the mad rush to start or complete as many projects as possible in the next six months.

Elections January or February 2019?

So Timothy Harris and Team Unity are not taking on any crime. They done try everything to no avail so they are focussing on diversions.

I can’t be vexed with them. If the only things working for them are the proposals and plans left by Douglas and Labour, then the only sensible move for the Team Unity cabal is to run with these very proposals and plans.

All their campaign promises that they tried to execute have all had some scandal associated with them.

If it were not for visionary Douglas and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Team Unity would have nothing to boast about.

The entire inner circle gone. Nothing to boast about.

Over ten resignations from their own within the first year. Nothing to boast about.
A weakened PAM since forming the government. Nothing to boast about.

A dictator. An abuser. An insulter.

Ask Sam. Ask Jean. Ask Samal. Ask Dwyer. Ask Big Lice. Ask Valentine Lindsay. Nothing to boast about.

A cabinet of unscrupulous ministers. Nothing to boast about.

So we all have to choose wisely this time around.

The excitement that a Timothy Harris-led coalition of all parties was to create never happened. The expectation of a brilliant intellectual brimming with ideas for a near paradise-like federation never materialised.

The Team Unity platform appeared so decent. Look at the Team Unity government now.
So we have seen them both.

And while Dr Douglas is by no means perfect, corruption wasn’t the order of the day.

Truth be told. The only minister involved in any questionable activities when Labour was in power is the same minister who is leading the pack in questionable activities in Team Unity. And he is leading the pack so well that none of them can hold a candle of correction to him.
Every day more and more disgruntled people are taking to the airwaves. The traffic lights and the high wooden fences around Labour’s projects are all part of the distraction.
I know 1st and 2ndTimothy. He is not going to have this ton load of activities then cool out to start another ton load of activities again.

It is obvious that elections are upon us.

After Timothy’s meeting on that Sunday, it is obvious that there is no unity in Team Unity.
It was an experiment that failed.

Our only choice now is Labour.

MEN OF VALOUR, INTEGRITY, CREDIBILITY, PLEASE PRESENT YOURSELF TO THE WORLD!

By Earle Clarke:

“A bad government cannot only be called a bad government! The real adjective should be this, “ENEMY!” Yes, a bad government is a real enemy of the country it governs – an enemy within. Mehmet Murat Ildan

Dear reader, today, my heart is deeply saddened, for, when I look at the future of my grandchildren, it looks so bleak for the Harbour Lights of Credibility, Integrity, Valour have been blown and are not shining to guide our young men from floundering on the rocks of gang related crimes, vengeful murders committed with guns and armed robberies. Our so-called Christian society is in a singing mode, specializing in the Christmas Carol – “Silent Night!” But Christmas is roughly six months away, yet we are hearing it playing loud and clear in the atmosphere and it is being sung by the Christian Council and the Evangelical Association, with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Bar Association and our so-called decent and respectable elements lending their voices to join in the REFRAIN! I remembered when Dr. Douglas posed the question, “If they say that I am doing all these things, then, I must be ten men in one?” Oh, how that remark was spun, twisted, exaggerated, and stomped upon, out of context?

Oh, how the so-called Christians joined in the fray, barefacedly and unashamed inventing their own dictionary of words to defame the man! Oh, how a certain radio stations made it its topic every day, vehemently defiling and assassinating Dr. Douglas’ reputation? In last week’s edition I mentioned how a certain ex-Minister of National Security and I recorded the happenings of 1967, only for him to return to the airwaves seven years later to refute all that he recorded in 2007. Then there is this sister who professes to be the biggest Christian residing on Planet Earth who claims that she supports no political party, yet mounts the airwaves and always attacking the Labour Party, never once criticizing the unity mirage. This sister is so sanctimonious that she even criticized Dr. Douglas for not being married as the Leader of the country. Every opportunity with which she was presented, she hammered home the point that we needed Leaders who had a family. The unity mirage is now in power; its leader is not married, and, if he were to, what a ruckus that would be in this part of the Planet?

His deputy will cause the same ruckus if he were to become plural. Only one person on that team unity is married, but the sister is mute on the subject. What hypocrisy eh? Dr. Denzil Douglas was born in St. Kitts. He loves his country and decided that whatever monies he earned in the country he would plough it back into the country to help to boost its economy; so he bought some old dilapidated houses, repaired them and rented them. He was severely criticized by some as being corrupt, using his office to project his investment. Mind you, being a man of integrity, he was not personally involved in the transaction of renting his houses as he hired an agent to perform such duties; yet he was vilified by the sister on the airwaves. Today, we have the sister of our Prime Minister who is the Registrar in the High Court, a sister who is a Magistrate in the lower Court, a brother who is in charge of the Development Bank, families who have gone into lucrative businesses since the Prime Minister has entered office and there is a deafening silence by the outstanding Christian sister.

Here was Lindsay Fitzgerald Grant, who was caught on camera performing a treacherous act on the economy of the Federation by conspiring with an individual with whom he was never acquainted to sell our land – the patronage of the people at below market price. What makes the action of our now Minister of Tourism stinks, was that the person with whom he conspired was totally unknown to him – a complete stranger to the man; no checks as to the character of the man, but ready to perform an underhand deal with him. This holier than thou Christian sister mounted the airwaves and condemned Dr. Douglas as the culprit for organizing the meeting between the man and Mr. Grant. Now dear reader, regardless of who set up the meeting, if Mr. Grant was not a corrupt person, he would have walked away from this complete stranger and his underhand deals, pronto, but the deal sounded too sweet for this corrupted soul to ignore totally. He immediately agreed to the deal and even handed this stranger his off-shore bank account number for the monies from the deal to be deposited. You see pon CORRUPT OFFICIALS?

How much more corrupt can an individual become, eh? Is it any surprise to us that our present day Prime Minister on the 19th May when he himself was besieged with an International Scandal and ran to his constituents in Tabernacle for comfort and support, declared at that meeting that not one of them, (referring to his Cabinet Colleagues), can raise a candle up to me to correct me! In essence, what our corrupted Prime Minister, after he became aware of the many emergency meetings being held on small boats sailing between St. Kitts and Nevis, was saying to these Colleagues at that time, was, “BOYS and Girls, ALL, all of us have very HUGE BOULDERS in our eyes, so, not one of you can dare take the boulder out of mine. All of us are a bunch of corrupted souls – none better than the other. If any of you ever grasp the idea that you can overthrow me, I will expose your dossier to the general public. If I go, all of you will be going with me!” And, what hurts, is that not one of our Church leaders blew his or her whistle? Not one referee from the Chamber of industry and commerce, cried Foul? No assistant referee from the Bar Association raised his/her flag to indicate that there was a dangerous infringement of the Laws of the game.

This is so for the simple reason that the HARBOUR LIGHTS of MORALITY in the Federation have been blown and there seems to be no bulbs of replacement available just now. What a DAMNING UTTERANCE from a leader of a country and there is NO OUTCRY, NO CONDEMNATION from the MORAL CONSCIENCE of the Society. What have become of all those who CONDEMNED Dr. Douglas? Where are our PRAYER WARRIORS, have they gone on a cruise? If so, please return to the Federation immediately for the NATION needs your payers urgently! You see pon HYPOCRISY? You see pon DISINGENUOUSNESS (not sincere, deceitfulness)? You see pon NON EXISTENT VALOUR (courage, bravery)? You see pon DISCREDITABLE BEHAVIOUR? In this Hurricane Season, those of us who love our country and wish it well regardless of who governs it will have to pray sincerely and earnestly, that it be spared. We, unlike the prayer warriors, must never descend to the depths of depravity and pray nor even wish that any natural disaster befall it. Love for or country is not seasonal. It is a year round thing. We are totally different!

We, who handed over the country to our present Prime Minister despite the evil things we heard him say about it are just as guilty as him in the International Scandal in which he is deeply immersed (dip, sink) It is we who ignored all the telling signals and placed him in that position. Now, I have oft times repeated that we should have realized that the man was only interested in becoming Prime Minister for Prime Minister’s sake. He cared not a damn (no apologies) to any people or country. It was solely about him and, was he to get into power; he would ensure that all of his family will be compensated for the poverty they suffered when they were growing up. The Country and the people must compensate them for their days of poverty. But. Didn’t the vast majority of us suffer the same fate? That was the way of life in those days. What makes his family more important and worthy to receive compensation when we are disqualified? Granny used to say, “Love so, no have so. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.” Those who should be compensating us, have our PM in their employ! So he is making us pay when, in truth and in fact, his handlers are the ones who should be compensating us.

Dear reader, there are some people who will sell their reputation, their souls, their integrity, their Principles on the ALTAR of Convenience. Here you have Peter Wickham, a Pollster (one who predicts the outcome of elections using scientific means) selling his reputable reputation for a mess of porridge? Brother Wickham, in dealing with the Antiguan Minister when the Scandal broke and Michael Assot had resigned from his Cabinet Position in Prime Minister Browne’s Cabinet, said on the Caribbean News that Michael Assot should not only resign from the Cabinet, he should also cease to represent his Constituency. In other words, Michael Assot should be erased from the Political Landscape of Antigua. His alleged participation in the Bribery Scandal was so horrific that his continued participation in the Politics of Antigua will be a blot, a scar, a stain, a blemish on the good name of Antigua and its people. Assot’s SIN is UNPARDONABLY UNFORGIVABLE and he should PAY the EXTREME PENALTY by VACATING the Political Landscape!

About a week later, Brother Peter Wickham changed his TUNE by saying that our Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris, who was alleged to be also involved in the same Atrocious Scandal in which he is requesting an EXPENSIVE WATCH AND A PAIR OF ALLIGATOR LEATHER SKINNED SHOES, must not step down from office. Here you have TWO PERSONS being INVOLVED in an INTERNATIONAL SCANDAL. You have recommended that one of them be wiped off the political landscape of his country and you then turn around and declare amnesty for the other person. Brother Peter Wickham is telling us that the Antiguan Minister deserves to be punished, but the Leader of St. Kitts should not suffer the same fate. What is Brother Wickham’s affinity to Dr. Harris that he can practice this deception, in his case, but practices hatred and animosity towards Minister Assot? Why Brother Wickham wants to hang Minister Assot politically, whilst he imposes a political life sentence on Dr. Timothy Harris?

In William Shakespeare’s Act, Scene III of his FAMOUS PLAY –“HAMLET,” Polonius says, “This above all: To thine own self be true and it must follow as the night the day. Thou canst not then be false to any man. Farewell, my blessing seasons this in you!” I wonder if Brother Wickham ever came across this quotation. I doubt it, for, if he did, he would not have practised such biasness, thereby tarring his reputation. In Life, we are gifted with an ASSET called RESPECT! We have to FIGHT WARS to maintain it in our LIVES. This ASSET cannot be bought; it must be earned and sometimes in the hardest of ways, but, when it is earned, it is well earned. When you LOSE this INTANGIBLE ASSET, it is UNREDEEMABLE. Regardless of how much you spend trying to regain it, it has flown away with the wind forever. It behooves us therefore to hold on tightly to it. Do not lose it, or else we will be like a twig floating on the ocean of life, compasslessly (my invention meaning listlessly) drifting, going hither, thither and yon unable to chart our destination. We who believe in ourselves must avoid this, regardless of our affinity!

Not Buying Into That TUG Advertisement

By: Thinking Citizen

The present Government which is led by Dr. Timothy Harris and which is called Team Unity advertises itself as being Transparent, Open, Accountable, democratic, honest, decent, upright, ethical and moral.

The trouble with Team Unity is that neither the Government itself as a whole nor any of its senior nor leading members have done anything publicly to indicate that they possess the qualities which the advertisement say they possess.

It seems as if the advertisement is nothing more than an elaborate game of trickery and deceit intended to fool the gullible and ignorant members of the general public.

There are those members of Team Unity who strongly contend that they are honest and upright although the Government of which they are a part indulges in nasty and corrupt practices. Nothing can work so. The old saying is not wrong. It goes like this: Birds of a feather stick together.

You see those members want to share in the benefits and the sweetness of membership in Team Unity but they do not want to be associated with any of the wicked and evil practices of Team Unity.

Some members of Team Unity show their solidarity with the Government by keeping quiet about matters, while other members play a more active part. They go out in public and defend the wrong things that Team Unity has done.

Some members of Team Unity believe that they are supporting DEMOCRACY by remaining silent within the Governing party which robs the ordinary man in the street of his natural and civil rights. Those members of Team Unity are promoting DUPLICITY and HYPOCRISY.
After claiming that it would provide the electorate with a government that would be decent, honest and upright the members of Team Unity entered into a corrupt arrangement with an overseas investor to allow them to conduct the Stem Cell Research Project at the JNF General Hospital in St. Kitts. When the news broke, the members of Team Unity Went berserk. One member denied that the Stem Cell Research was being conducted while another member owned up to the fact. Imagine! A Government that claims to be honest and decent actually promoting an illegal research project.

The Team Unity Government is alleged to have given accommodation and protection to a Chinese fugitive from justice in China. Also, it was widely circulated in public that that powerful and influential politicians closely linked to the Government received large sums of money for providing accommodation and protection for the Chinese fugitive.
Just recently a senior member of Team Unity Government was said to have been involved in some bribery scandal in which a pair of expensive shoes and a very valuable watch were involved.

Our Team Unity Government seems to be addicted to trouble. Scarcely a month passes without our Team Unity Government getting itself in some sort of trouble. Very often the trouble has its origin in jealousy, grudge, envy, or greed. People who have a lot want a lot more.

It is said that people have already begun to call a certain politician the “Shoes Man”. Thank God that nobody would ever dare to call Dr Douglas by such an indecent mockery.

Who Really Caused Problems With Our Diplomatic Passports?

A few days ago the news broke that our citizens who are desirous of obtaining visitors’ visas to enable them to enter Canada will soon have to appear in person before the Canadian consular officer in order to do so. That will entail travelling to Port-of-Spain, and incurring all of the relevant additional expenses.

This increased difficulty runs counter to the propaganda of the SCHEME UNITY lot. They have accused our leader and party of being the cause of Canada’s tightening of the rules, and of that being specific to us. Now that it has become open and clear that such is not the case, those who preached otherwise are fully exposed to be the liars and deceivers that they truly are.

But, rather than seeking to make amends with our people, they persist in their evil ways, clinging tenaciously to their falsehoods and outright, most outrageous lying, all the while perpetuating their efforts to deceive and mislead the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In our edition of Friday 15 instant, we drew your attention to a precise example of how they go about doing that, again quoting the case of Moghadam, and in writing, even though they know it to be patently false.

As the new development began to bite earlier in the week, they went bonkers. How did they react? In the manner so typical of them. Rather than seeking to make amends they set their sycophants and gadflies on our public, seeking to dominate every radio programme on all stations, again and again trying to play the ‘Moghadam’ card.

Oh, what a dangerous lot they are!

If there is any one person who, at any time, caused us any embarrassment or problems by virtue of holding and using a St. Kitts Nevis diplomatic passport that name would be Jonathan Randall Curshen.

On the 27th of October 2017, at page 15 of our edition Year 60 Number 21, we published an item “Points To Ponder”. We invited you, our people to ask a series of questions concerning Curshen, and we provided some URLs (links) to websites from which certain information could be gleaned concerning that individual.

Some years ago Curshen entered into an arrangement with a minister of the crown then serving in Comrade Dr. Denzil Douglas’ cabinet. That minister concocted and convinced our government of the need to open and operate a consulate in Costa Rico, introduced Curshen to the government, and persuaded cabinet to appoint him as our consular agent in that country, as well as granting him the use of one of our diplomatic passports.

As it subsequently transpired, what Curshen wanted to do all along was to continue a very substantial money laundering operation which he was carrying on in Costa Rico, but he badly needed (and wanted) ‘diplomatic’ status which he thought would have shielded him from the authorities of several countries who were already after him. He felt that operating out of a consular office would have provided him with ‘protection’.

Curshen openly boasted to a reporter, to some of his friends, and to some of his customers, that he had paid the minister in the St. Kitts Nevis government the sum of US$250,000 for the diplomatic passport.

None of that money ever reached the treasury. It was not banked in St. Kitts. The government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis NEVER benefitted from any of that payment. We could not. It was an illegitimate deal from which, it subsequently transpired, ONLY the minister benefitted. Not even Curshen did.

Eventually Jonathan Curshen was arrested by US authorities while he was travelling in New York City. When he tried to avoid arrest by asserting the fact that he was travelling on a diplomatic passport, he received the shock of his life. His ‘status’ did not help him at all.
When the news of his arrest hit the print and broadcast media his St. Kitts ‘minister’ friend dropped him like the proverbial ‘hot potato’.

Curshen was tried on a number of charges, found guilty, and is currently serving some very stiff prison sentences in Florida.

It was his possession and abuse of a St. Kitts Nevis diplomatic passport which sparked all of the hullabaloo (or ruckus) about us. When combined with his consular status and use of his “St. Kitts and Nevis” consular office in Costa Rico as a cover for a vast money laundering operation, we very quickly became a ‘point of interest’ for a number of countries and international organisations around the world.

Needless to say INTERPOL was one of those bodies. So too were the Canadian Mounties, as well as the US CIA, FBI, DEA and FinCEN agencies.

The St. Kitts Nevis cabinet minister who had ‘engineered’ and ‘facilitated’ the ‘arrangements’ for Curshen had taken some extra precautions to conceal his identity and protect himself in the event that anything went wrong. As Curshen himself later disclosed to some of his friends, the relevant minister had told him (Curshen), early o’clock, that in such an eventuality he (Curshen) was not to call his (the minister’s) name, but instead he was to ascribe anything and everything to “The Denzil Douglas Administration”. And so it was.

Such was a major part of the SCHEME to besmirch Comrade Douglas’ good name, thereby making it easier to turn the people against him, and eventually bring down his administration.

Needless to say Jonathan Curshen never got back a penny of his US$250,000. And, as he languishes in prison, the demonic creature continues to ‘run wild’, hither, tither and yon, enjoying all of the good things of life.

One can well imagine that Curshen is thinking to himself just how unfair it all is, and that he does so all day, every day. What, oh what, could he be planning for his former ‘partner’? Most likely we shall just have to wait and see.

For all those who are so fond of blaming Dr. Douglas for everything wrong where St. Kitts and Nevis are concerned, be you PAM, Labour, CCM or NRP, the foregoing is some very serious ‘food for thought’. And we point out to you that the foregoing is only but one (1) sample of the monstrous evil which has befallen our once fair land.

We do hope and trust that most of you, our readers, will now begin to get a better understanding of who and what drove our country into the sad state in which we now find ourselves, and who they were that blackened our name in the international community.
It should become clear to all that our beloved Comrade Denzil Douglas is the true political leader most genuinely interested in you, our people, and our country.
Stand by for further developments.
