BASSETERRE (Friday 29th January 2021) — Police are investigating the death of a six-month-old infant girl who died on Friday 22nd January 2021 after being left in her father’s vehicle. An autopsy concluded the cause of death was Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy due to Asphyxia as a consequence of confinement in a closed space. Preliminary investigations revealed the father had collected the baby to take her to the nursery, returned to work, and discovered the baby still in the back seat sometime after midday. A counselor commented on the public debate: “Human nature is to blame somebody but at the end of the day, these things do happen unfortunately. We as society cannot be the judge and executor of incidents of this kind.”
