On Sunday, 28 November 2021, The St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party met in a Special Conference. In what has to be considered as a truly historic occasion, the party and the nation witnessed the longest serving party leader (and indeed of any of our nation’s political parties) step down, with a new leadership team voted into office.

Dr. The Right Honourable Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, PC, JP, MP, was first elected as National Political Leader of our party in May 1989, and was re-elected each and every year since. He led the party back into office in July 1995, and held the office of Prime Minister until February 2015 when he, and our party, were brought down from within — the second time in our history suffering such a fate.

Dr. Douglas’ record of service to the party and this nation, for many people and even regardless of political divide, is viewed as worthy of extensive review. There are many party supporters and others in general who salute Dr. Douglas for what is described as outstanding leadership, while applauding what many hail to be an outstanding and most effective way in which he managed the nation’s affairs, especially over such an extended period of time.

Sunday’s Conference elected a new team of leaders for the party. Returned as the new National Political Leader was Dr. Terrance Drew, with Konris Maynard and Dr. Geoffrey Hanley as his deputies. Congratulations to all persons who were elected to political leadership positions, and those who were elected to executive office. The history books have surely catalogued the historic passing of the baton of leadership within the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, and now all eyes remain on the party leading up to the next general elections!
