BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 3rd May 2019) – Caretaker of St. Christopher Eight for the opposition St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Dr. Terrance Drew hosted an inaugural Awards Dinner over the past weekend honouring eighteen (18) individuals who have collectively contributed to the development and advancement of the constituency and the country on a whole in various areas including health, education and entertainment.

The prestigious event held at the Royal St.Kitts Hotel in Frigate Bay on Saturday 27th April saw scores of family members of the awardees, residents of Constituency Eight and well-wishers in attendance.

The 13 community awardees in the different fields are: Community Development – Mr. Maxwell Bass Snr.; Entrepreneurship – Mr. Jonathan Bass; Community Leadership – Mr. Desmond Hobson; Healthcare – Ms. Claudette Vanterpool; Youth Development – Mr. Dominic Stevens; Sports – Mr. Mudassa Howe and  Mr. George ‘Yellowman’ Isaac; Labour Spirit/Camaraderie – Mr. Cedric Clarke and Mr.Tristram Mills; Music & Entertainment – Mr. Kervin ‘Infamus’ Benjamin; Agriculture – Ms. Iteena Pemberton; Education – Mrs. Eleanor Phillip; National Contribution – Mr. Zeke Percival.

The five (5) Honorary Awardees spotlighted for their contribution to championing the development and success of Constituency Eight of SKNLP are: Cedric Roy Liburd (former Parliamentary Representative), Halva Hendrickson (former candidate), Goldwin Caines and Lolita Byron.

Dr. Drew, during his remarks, spoke about the awardees as “those who would have contributed significantly to its development; the development of the constituency number 8 being the largest constituency on this island could not have been done without those persons who would have dedicated themselves to the endeavour and so we want to highlight them.”

“We want not only the persons of Constituency Eight to know who these persons are who have contributed significantly to its development and advancement but we want the country and indeed…the wider world [to know also].”

Dr. Drew, who is also the SKNLP Chairman, told that with over 6000 voters in the constituency, it was a “difficult process” to select the awardees noting that these first set of awardees are “deserving”.

“…let me say this is just the first one with many to come, and so those who are not recognised tonight will have the opportunity to be awarded,” he added.
