BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 26th April 2019) – The Conaree Football Club (CFC) has been dealt some penalties following one its members being slapped with an attempted murder charge having wounded a player of the Village Superstars Football Club after a match played over the past weekend.
Hospitalised for stab wounds is Jaheem ‘Pipe’ Francis and blamed for such wounding is Glenroy Samuel of Conaree. Both are believed to be in their 20s.
Police say Samuel was formally charged with a warrant on Wednesday 24th April. He was charged in the first instance with the offence of Attempted Murder for an incident that took place on Saturday 20th April 2019 at Warner Park.
The stabbing is said to have taken place sometime after the match in favour of Village Superstars beating Conaree 2-1.
The St.Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) via a recent press release frowned upon the incident saying in part: “We are extremely concerned and alarmed at this senseless and wanton act of violence against a player in our league and wish to state categorically that there is absolutely no place whatsoever for this kind of brutal and criminal act against any player, match official, spectator or other stakeholder.”
In most recent developments, yesterday (Thursday) this media house got a look at a leaked letter to CFC from SKNFA informing that Samuel is banned from all related football activities pending the outcome of the court matter in regard to the crime charge and its own investigation.
Furthermore, the club is on the receiving of a sanction of a 24-point deduction in the National Bank Premier League (2018-2019 Points Table) “for failure to conduct itself properly, in particular the control of its players, and adherence to the principles of “Fair Play” in SKNFA matches. Further, the Executive Committee has imposed a Transfer Ban on the SOL Island Auto Conaree for the 2019-2020 SKNFA football season. The transfer ban prevents the club from registering any new player during the said period, except players who are already registered with the club in other SKNFA leagues.”
The SKNFA’s decision has erupted widespread public debate with some claiming that it is unfair for the CFC to be suffer because of a player’s action while others are applauding the measures put in place with immediate effect.
