The past year has been a particularly trying one for many of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused deep worry in many ways. For many it has been a case of worrying, twenty-four hours a day, about our offspring, relatives and friends living in Canada, The United States, The United Kingdom, and other places where the virus has been causing high death and infection rates. On a daily basis we pray for their safety, even as we pray for that of ourselves and others here at home.

Yet, there seem to be many of our people who are still ignoring the very serious threat which this disease poses to lives, livelihood and general well-being. There are those who deliberately choose to disregard the precautions mandated for the protection of ourselves and others. Such persons are a very real and present danger to each other, to those who view the situation with the gravity that it calls for, and who exercise the care and practices necessary for their safety and good health.

It is true that thousands of our people are suffering great economic and financial hardships because of COVID-19. We are aware of those facts, but they are not good reasons to ignore the rules and act carelessly.

We call on all of our people to take the COVID-19 pandemic with the utmost seriousness. The threat is real, and it is truly deadly. The danger has not yet passed, and it is foolhardy for anyone to think so. Even worse, it is grievously irresponsible for any such person to try to convince others to their mistaken beliefs.

Please, dear people of St Kitts and Nevis, we implore you, listen to the health authorities and those qualified in dealing with problems such as COVID. Do not hearken to those who try to steer you in the opposite direction.

The season of Lent has drawn to a close. It is our hope that all of our people were able to enter and remain in the spirit of that holy time for its duration. We also hope that all of our people have benefitted from a spiritual renewal, especially at this time of grave danger to our health.

Today is Good Friday, which means that we are now entering the holy season of Easter. Let us all do so with great joy and thanksgiving, strengthening our relationship with our Heavenly Father and Our Blessed Saviour, and each of us recommitting ourselves to be our brothers keepers.

To all of our people, here at home and overseas, we send you our very best wishes for a Happy and Blessed Easter.
