Minister of Culture Jonel Powell announced that traditional carnival events for Sugar Mas 49 are cancelled due to COVID-19, including all pageants, J’ouvert, grand parade and Las Lap celebrations. A virtual events calendar will be released shortly, showcasing unique elements of St. Kitts-Nevis culture including aspects of Christmas festivities. “The committee along with its partners intend to create virtual events that are new and creative as well as scaled back activities for end of year celebration,” Powell said. The virtual format will be done by the National Carnival Committee in partnership with Industry Creatives.
