BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (FEBRUARY 2018): Three of nine pilot whales, which beached at Indian castle, on Saturday last, (10th February) were rescued and taken to Long Point in Nevis where they were set free into the deep waters.

This was made possible by the collaboration between local fishermen and other helpful individuals.

According to the Hon. Eric Evelyn, Parliamentary representative for the area, the speed at which the work was completed, made the difference between life and death, for at least those three whales.

The others died on the spot and were buried.

Minister Evelyn thanked all of the heavy equipment operators and other community members who assisted in getting them back into their natural habitat.

He also commended local fisheries expert, Mr. Lemuel Pemberton, who led the rescue efforts.

Mr. Evelyn said he wasn’t certain as to what brought the whales in but noted that after consultation with local fishermen a decision was made to save the creatures.
