MIGUEL FLEMMING NAMED ACTING PERMANENT SECRETARY IN MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE — September 7, 2022
Mr Miguel S. Flemming, 33, has been named Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Marine Resources and Cooperatives, effective Monday September 5, 2022 — making him the youngest ever Acting Permanent Secretary named in the Ministry of Agriculture. Flemming holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Crop Production and a Master’s Degree in Aquatic Studies from the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. Prior to his acting assignment, he was Manager of the Bayford’s Livestock Centre of Excellence, and has also served as Head of the Livestock Division in the Department of Agriculture, St Kitts, and Farm Manager at the St Kitts Eco Park. Minister of Agriculture Hon. Samal Duggins said: “Mr Miguel Flemming has a formidable background as a qualified agriculturist and can help to add a youthful perspective in the quest to enhance the agricultural sector. He comes with a wealth of knowledge in agriculture-related matters. This is just one of many positive changes to come as this new administration follows through with its promise to deliver impactful and transformational change.”
UN AND CDB STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP WITH NEW AGREEMENT — September 7, 2022
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — The United Nations (UN) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) signed an agreement to further strengthen ties and deepen the partnership between the two institutions. The agreement outlines cooperation in four critical areas: economic diversification, innovative finance, resilience and vulnerability, and data and knowledge management. CDB President Dr Gene Leon said: “None of us on our own can overcome the task ahead and if we are committed to making change there is no other choice but to partner.” UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Didier Trebucq noted: “With only eight years to achieve the SDGs, in the context of multiple layers of crisis, it is clear that we can only make progress by working together.”
