Bridgetown, Barbados — Regional financial services entity Sagicor has embarked on a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Helping Hands, to uplift three non-governmental organisations, following the submission of more than 250 applications from various charities across the region. After a careful selection process, The Deaf Heart Project in Barbados, Servol Life Centres in Trinidad and Tobago, and Lake Health and Wellness in St. Kitts and Nevis were chosen to work with the insurer until year-end. Investment is in excess of US$30,000 combined across the Caribbean.

The Deaf Heart Project is a non-profit organisation serving the deaf community in Barbados and the Caribbean, aiming to empower deaf persons and bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing world. Servol is a community-based social impact agency oriented towards building the capacities of local communities through early childhood care, life skills training via its Adolescent Development Programme, teacher training, and parent support via its Parent Outreach Programme — to date having trained and cared for over 230,000 citizens. Lake Health and Wellness is a public health NGO founded to tackle the high rate of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in St. Kitts and Nevis, dedicated to improving health and wellbeing of local, regional, and online communities through research, support, health-related events, campaigns, and public health interventions. Sagicor Executive Vice President Paul Inniss said: “The Caribbean is overflowing with persons whose passion it is to alleviate the pain and suffering of others. NGOs, charities and service organisations do much of the important work needed to move our societies forward.”
