BASSETERRE (Friday 4th December 2020) — Minister of Health Akilah Byron-Nisbett revealed on World AIDS Day 2020 that a high number of young people under 30 and more males than females are being infected with HIV in new cases in St. Kitts-Nevis. Between 2015 and October 2020, there were 81 new HIV cases, of which 56 (66.6%) are male and a startling 42% are under 30 years old. Over the period 1984 to October 2020, 458 new HIV cases were reported with 145 deaths (31.6%). The theme for World AIDS Day 2020 is ‘Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact.’
