BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 13th September 2023)-A 24-year-old male worker Kevonne Smithen of New Road, who recently died on the scene after a stabbing attack while on the job at a gas station, is being remembered for his usual smiling personality.
“He was always smiling… He was always such a happy person,” a relative recalled while speaking to this media house. Police are investigating that fatal wounding that occurred on Monday 11th September 2023, having indicated that the criminal act was committed at a gas station on Victoria Road, Basseterre, – LOCAL NEWS5
St. Kitts, between 6:30PM and 7PM. A graphic video circulated via social media-particularly WhatsApp, shows the young man on the ground after being attacked with what appears to be a knife in his back. Reportedly, having received reports of the incident, officers of the Violent Crime Unit (VCU) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Royal St.
Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, Smithen was observed laying motionless on the ground with a knife lodged in his back and multiple wounds about his body. Police say initial inquiries indicate that Smithen, an employee of the gas station, was accosted by two (2) armed assailants while attending to vehicles.
Reportedly, the assailants reportedly struck and stabbed him about the body several times before fleeing the scene. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Police Public Relations department is also reporting that The Crime Scene Unit (CSU) of the RSCNPF processed the scene and took into Police custody some items of evidential value.
