BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 9th April 2021) — The opposition Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) formally launched Jaedee Caines as its candidate for Constituency 1 Nevis (St. Paul – Charlestown) on Saturday 10th April 2021 at the Villa Grounds in Charlestown. Caines is a well-known community activist, communication specialist, and journalist with more than 15 years of involvement in education, media and community affairs.
Caines told this media house she wants her candidacy to “focus on education and skills training and boost entrepreneurship in St. Paul in particular and in Nevis in general.” She also wants to help the NRP to “rebuild and rebrand so that it can be more in line with current Nevisian sentiments and in tune with the hopes and aspirations of the people.” She holds degrees in communication and criminal justice. Past achievements include being a 2005 Miss Culture Pageant runner-up, being crowned Miss Hospitality in the 2006 Nevis Tourism pageant, and serving as Chair of the 2012 Senior Pageants Sub-committee of the Culturama Festival.
NRP Political Leader Janice Daniel-Hodge said Caines is “a charismatic and hardworking woman who is focused and committed to a cause,” and that the party is seeking the best candidates for all five Nevis constituencies. “We hope that the people would recognise that the NRP has been rebranded and that it is reenergised,” she said. The St. Paul seat is currently held by CCM’s Spencer Brand, who won the seat on December 18, 2017 by just 11 votes over then-NRP candidate Robelto Hector.
