BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 29th July 2021) — Jason Rogers and Amya Clarke have been selected to represent the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, competing in the men’s 100m and women’s 100m respectively. Rogers is a three-time Olympian while Clarke is making her Olympic debut. On Friday 23rd July 2021, Rogers carried the Federation’s flag at the Parade of Nations during the opening ceremony.

In Clarke’s preliminary round for the women’s 100m held at 8:00 PM Eastern Caribbean Time on Thursday 29th July, she clocked 11.67 seconds and finished in the top three of her heat, advancing to the next round. St. Kitts-Nevis Athletics described Clarke’s run as “impressive.” The St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic Committee noted that given the tiny size of the team, the ongoing public health situation, and the new safety and security protocols under which the Games are being conducted, the team’s participation is especially commendable. The Olympics continue to be branded “Tokyo 2020” despite being held in 2021 because production of all merchandise, branding, medals, torches and associated intellectual property had already begun under that name before the pandemic postponement, and a name change would have incurred enormous and unnecessary costs.
