BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 24th April 2020) – Resident Taiwanese Ambassador Tom Lee has spoken about Taiwan’s success in combating COVID-19 and its continued exclusion from the World Health Organization.
Taiwan activated its Central Epidemic Command Center on 20th January 2020, implementing border control, electronic entry quarantine systems, GPS tracking of quarantined individuals, and NHI card-linked travel history alerts for physicians. As of 20th April, Taiwan had 422 confirmed cases and six deaths, with 203 patients released from isolation.
Ambassador Lee confirmed that in addition to 40,000 masks donated to St. Kitts-Nevis on 15th April, six thermal imaging cameras and a batch of thermometer guns are on the way. Taiwanese experts have also reviewed SKN’s official COVID-19 Preparation Plans.
“The right to health is a fundamental part of our human rights. If it is indeed WHO’s mission to ensure the highest attainable standard of health for every human being, then WHO needs Taiwan just as Taiwan needs WHO,” said Ambassador Lee.
