BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 25th June 2021) — Police Superintendent and COVID-19 Task Force member Cromwell Henry has warned that too many persons are outside of their homes during the current shelter-in-place order, calling it “one of the fuels for the number of new cases that we are seeing daily.” He made the disclosure at the NEOC COVID-19 Daily Briefing held on Wednesday 23rd June 2021.

Regulation 7 of the current Emergency Powers (COVID-19) Regulations requires every person to be confined to their place of residence including yard space to avoid contact outside of their family, with exceptions only for accessing essential services or for essential workers. “We continue to see too many persons outside of their homes without the requisite authorisation. This is one of the fuels for the number of new cases that we are seeing daily,” Henry stated.

Superintendent Henry reported the enforcement statistics: Since his previous presentation on Monday, police arrested two persons for breaches — one for breaching the night curfew and one for hosting a private party without permission. Twelve persons were given tickets for attending a private party and five for failing to wear masks in public. In a broader update he had given on Monday 21st June, he reported that police issued 191 tickets between 21st May and 20th June for failing to wear masks in public and hosting social events without permission: 119 on St. Kitts and 72 on Nevis. A further 31 persons were arrested for breaching the curfew, and 8 had been charged. As of Wednesday 23rd June, there were 301 active COVID-19 cases in St. Kitts-Nevis, with three recorded deaths. Henry also highlighted the temporary suspension of all retail liquor licences and reminded operators of bars, restaurants and food trucks that the sale of liquor is prohibited under the current regulations.
