BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 23rd October 2024)- Public Relations Officer for the St. Peter’s Festival Committee Jacynthia Techeira has highlighted that companies are seeing the value in the festival.

“We realize that companies are seeing the value in the festival, and they’re saying this is a festival they can put their brand a part of. We welcome sponsorships, partnerships-anything that can make this festival one for the road,” she said during an interview with this media house on Saturday 19th October 2024 following the J’ouvert event, featuring the Nu Vybes International Band (De Sugar Band).

As understood, this year, under the theme ‘One Community Moving with Togetherness’, the festival has embraced a blend of entertainment and community-building activities that continue to resonate with both participants and corporate sponsors.

Sponsors include Lux Carnival, Police Credit Union, Elco Limited and the St.Kitts-Nevis -Anguilla National Bank.

Techeira highlighted that while music and live performances remain central to the festival, including a spectacular J’ouvert event, there has been a deliberate effort to expand activities beyond entertainment.

“We thought that instead of solely focusing on music and bands, we could include more community-oriented activities. So far, we’ve had six cricket teams and nine football teams participating in tournaments, and I can tell you they’re really enjoying themselves,” she explained.

“If you check our Instagram page, you’ll see the [Sofa Stone] walk was nicely attended. We went around the community, and we’ve had really good engagement so far, especially from the community,” Techeira added.

She credits much of the festival’s success to the hard work of the committee and a renewed focus on branding and promotion.

“This year, we ramped up from last year and made sure our social presence speaks to the quality we have on the ground,” she said. “We’ve got a committee where each member is designated to a particular activity, ensuring that everything is maximized.”

When asked about the future of the St. Peter’s Community Festival, Techeira was optimistic.

“Honestly, this year we took on a major job. We thought branding, promotion, and marketing were all important steps to sow seeds for future growth. We’re already looking forward to next year and to doing even more with the support and exposure we’ve built.”

For now, Techeira and her team are savouring the success of this year’s festival while setting the stage for bigger things to come.

Techeira proudly stated: “It’s not my festival, it’s not your festival-it’s our festival. And the more we get involved, the bigger it will get.”

Culminating events include the Frieye Concert (25th October), Parade Day and After Party (26th October) and Miss St. Peter’s Queen Pageant (27th October).

While Mother’s Day often brings a natural outpouring of love and celebration, Father’s Day unfortunately tends to be met with less enthusiasm and recognition. This disparity is often chalked up to the presence of absent or neglectful fathers-those ‘bad apples’ who have, regrettably, cast a shadow over the entire barrel. But it is neither fair nor wise to let a few unfortunate examples overshadow the countless men who show up every single day with love, patience, sacrifice, and strength for their children.
