BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 27th April 2023)- General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union Precious Mills says the workers’ representative organisation is preparing to host a ‘Working for Workers’ booth during the International Workers’ Day (Labour Day) come Monday 1st May 2023.
That booth would set up at the Patsy Allers Play Field in the St. Johnston’s community in Basseterre during the annual Labour Day event hosted by the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP); a sister organisation in the labour movement on the topic of championing the cause of workers’ rights and protection.
“We are very excited about the upcoming occasion International Workers’ Day and so we are inviting workers to visit our booth where we’ll have information leaflets to learn about our union. We will also be in fundraising mode and so there will be food and drinks on sale.
We are looking forward to the support from members of the public.” She added: “We also have a t-shirt design that we shall be sporting on that day during the march and just for the occasion because we are definitely in ‘Working for Workers’ mode and so that is a major part of our visibility. We also have a powerful message asking workers to join the workers because the union makes us strong.
We want that message to resonate with workers and other supporters. So, feel free to approach anyone wearing the shirt and have a conversation.” Gen Sec Mills explained that on that day workers will be able to register to join the membership of the union and have a conversation with members of the executive body with any questions and concerns that they may have.
