BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 4th October 2023) – “My sole intention was to protect my child; That’s the first thing that I have to do, and worry about everything else after. That’s the nature of a good parent – to me in my book.” This was what Ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson said during a recent live Facebook interview with well-known social media video blogger Romnage ‘Shaq’ Benjamin of Model Cop News (MCN) on Sunday 1st October 2023in talking about a recent incident which saw him reacting after his 8-year-old son was allegedly robbed of his chain and pushed by a “young man” outside of his home.

Public debate came after a video surfaced via social media which saw him using swear words during a confrontation moment. He questioned: “How could somebody in front me gate rob me son?” As understood, the incident took place on Independence Day -Tuesday 19th September.

“This happened, of all days ,when we’re celebrating 40 years of independence, my child is being attacked on Independence Day,” he expressed. Natta Nelson pointed out that: “My son expressed to his mother who called me immediately that somebody took his chain He indicated that those who contacted him were “people who have our interests at heart.” At the biggest stage in the world; there’s no bigger stage than the United Nations …This was in the main hall of the United Nations…This is a serious matter and it needs serious attention which we have to deal with as a country.

Condor alluded that in such a situation, the government would – LOCAL NEWS – 3 “have to write to the UN and communicate that we’re recalling our ambassador and she will be replaced.” A communique issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated September 27, 2023 said Dockery “has been recalled to Capital for consultations with immediate effect.” It was further shared that: “The Government remains committed to promoting the interests of Saint Kitts and Nevis within the international community and to advancing its principled foreign policy.” Additionally: “Government has identified an Interim Representative who is presently undergoing the accreditation process.” Front Page Image: Former government minister and former ambassador to the United Nations Sam Condor

and pushed him. A cousin of mine was at home. The child was such in shock… I had to sit down in a police station for six hours.” “The child vividly explained what happened to him, and so the day went on; he went to play football but I went to the police station and made a report the Saturday.” Natta Nelson described his boy as “an adorable child…

People love de child.” “I don’t condone violence, I won’t say my aggression was the best but at the end of the day as a parent, what am I supposed to do in a situation like that?” According to Natta Nelson: “I didn’t just go down there. Some threats were thrown at me and so I went back and I expressed to the young man what I had to say to him.

I’m not condoning the words that I used but what was I supposed to do? If that person could come in front me house, well where else they can’t meet me child and try to offend me child?” He added: “And before I engaged the young man, I had already called the police.” During the interview session, Natta Nelson said the police are involved and that he is hoping that the matter would come to an end soon.

“My child’s safety is paramount. Everybody’s child safety is paramount. My intention wasn’t to harm the guy but yes I went to confront him, and as I said I went peacefully first but there were some others including himself who decided to act differently,” he shared.

Natta Nelson apologised for his aggression but emphasized – CLASSIFIED ADS

that he stood up for his son. “I apologise for that [my aggression] but I stood up for me child and that is what is at the heart of this. People are going to use this and try to be political.” As pointed out by him: “My child [is] not named Ambassador Leon Natta Nelson son.

When he goes to school, nobody calls him Ambassador Leon Natta Nelson’s son. They call him Liam. When I wake up in the morning, I call him Liam… I deal with him as a father and son connection. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do as parents?

I cannot tell a parent how to love their child. I cannot tell a parent how to act …I would expect a parent to find the best way to resolve any problem with their child; any problem at all.” In underscoring his responsibility as a parent, Natta Nelson said: “That is the ultimate responsibility so before they see me as an ambassador or a financial advisor, see me first as a parent then those things after.  Front Page Image: Ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson seen during a recent live Facebook interview with well-known social media video blogger Romnage ‘Shaq’ Benjamin of Model Cop News (MCN) on Monday 30th September 2023 (Spokesman Screenshot)
