Our Country Needs The Sound Leadership Of Labour

The Labour Spokesman Editorial

For some weeks now the people of this beloved country of ours have been treated to the sordid spectacle of members of the governing regime openly at war amongst themselves. Elsewhere in the world persons of honour would have resigned in disgust, reported on the matter to the electorate, and done whatever was necessary to restore the governance of the country to some semblance of normalcy. It seems as if, for the time being at least, the people would be within their rights to assume that there is no person of honour in the regime.

A few days ago CARIBUPDATE presented an analysis that was stinging in its criticism of the whole matter, pointing out that in the given circumstances, anywhere else the prime minister would have assembled his cabinet and offered his resignation. At the recently held PAM Annual Convention, the leader of PAM and the leader of CCM — both members of the (so-called) unity coalition — before the whole world, openly put the prime minister on political trial and convicted him, even as he sat listening to them, his face partially hidden by a COVID mask. Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards apparently agreed with Mark Brantley that Nevis is not getting its ‘fair share’ of CBI monies.

What is ever so sad about all of this is that DISUNITY is happening at a time when our country is very badly in need of sound management. With the COVID pandemic still raging, with a world on the brink of chaos, and with global supply shortages looming, our country is desperately crying out for real leadership and ‘good governance.’ Instead we are treated to more prettiness and traffic lights. Our country is most desperately in need of the sound management which only Labour can provide. It is time for Dr. Harris and his lot to go! It is time for Dr Drew and his dedicated and loyal team.
