BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 12th January 2022) — Government Minister Lindsay Grant, who holds the portfolio as Minister of Tourism, Transport and Ports, is currently caught up in an altercation controversy captured on cellphone video recording, involving an argument situation with police officers at Las Lap bar in Bird Rock.

Grant, on Tuesday 11th January 2022, issued a statement indicating that he regrets how the circumstances have been portrayed and that the videos do not display the full extent of the incident that night. His statement reads in full: “I have seen the videos, I have heard the commentary on the airwaves and I have read the messages regarding the incident between myself and police officers. While the videos do not display the full extent of the incident that night, I do understand the position that I hold. I regret how the circumstances have been portrayed and I wish to assure the public and the police in particular that I fully support their efforts at the preservation of law and order. I encourage the police to gather all evidence and to investigate the full context of the matter.”

When quizzed on his impression of Grant’s statement, SKNLP Leader Dr. Terrance Drew labelled it an embarrassment: “I would say that I saw a statement from Minister Grant, and I’m more disappointed. It is just an embarrassment for him and whoever wrote that statement and it shows that Mr. Grant has no contrition; he does not really believe that he did anything wrong. Everybody knows, even those who support his party, they know that he violated the law and they know that his action is a serious action because he violated the officers of the law. The right and honourable thing is to resign.”
